Local Council Mtg - How Do I Proxy?
I have received questions about how an ALPA Member in Good Standing can give their proxy to another Member in Good Standing if they are unable to attend the meeting in person. Since a change to the Constitution and By-Laws went into effect, proxies are no longer done on paper -- they're done electronically.
The internet home of this process is the "My Proxy System" page of the ALPA website. There are a few ways to get there.
In the spirit of "Give him a fish, he eats for a day, teach him to fish, he eats for a lifetime" I'm going to drop a direct link to the page you need here, and then I'm going to explain how to find the page in the future when you don't want to dig this post out. Here's "the fish":
There are two steps to the process, and both must be accomplished in order to complete the process
First, the person giving the proxy must designate the proxy. I know this seems obvious, but I'm trying to be thorough. Check the box or boxes beside the agenda items ("subjects to proxy") for which you are giving your proxy. For the upcoming September 9 meeting, there are three subjects to proxy, one for "Consideration of Recall" for each of the three Block Representatives. Then use the "Select a Proxy" drop-down dialog to access a list of all local council members in good standing listed alphabetically by Last name, then first name. Select your proxy by clicking on the circle to the right of their name, and then clicking on the button labelled "Save Proxy."
An e-mail will be generated and sent to the e-mail address on file for you and the person you designated as your proxy. That should prompt your proxy to complete the Second step.
To complete the process, the person receiving the proxy must also go to the "My Proxy System" page to Accept the proxy. Below the section of the page used to designate a proxy they should see a section labelled "Proxy Request." A checkbox will appear adjacent to the name of the person giving the proxy and adjacent to each of the subjects to proxy. Click on the appropriate boxes and then on the button labelled "Accept."
Here's the "how to fish":
If you're used to accessing the FDX.ALPA,ORG page from a laptop or desktop, go there, log in, and look in the upper left-hand corner for the generic ALPA drop-down menu. Click on or hover over "Quick Links" and then select "Members Only Home." (If for some reason you can't see that drop-down menu, never fear. Skip to the next step.)
Since the "Members Only Home" points to the wrong URL, you'll land on a page with this message:
Click on HERE to go to the correct URL for the ALPA Members Only Home page.
If you were able to log in on the FDX.ALPA page and access the Quick Links menu, that should take you (after the extra page and extra click) to alpa.org/members/home. If you could NOT see the "Quick Links" menu on the FDX.ALPA page, or if you want to just skip that step, you can go directly to alpa.org (not the FDX page). Then, unless you've already logged in via the FDX.ALPA page you'll need to do so here to get to alpa.org/members/home.
At this point there's a difference in what you might see on the "Desktop" version and a Mobile version. On the desktop version you should see a red box on the far right side of the top menu tape labeled "My ALPA." On the mobile version you'll need to click on the Menu icon (3 horizontal bars on the right end of the top menu bar) for options to drop down. The fifth option will be highlighted in red, "My ALPA."
On the desktop, click or hover over "My ALPA" and then look at the bottom of the left column for "My Proxy System." Click on "My Proxy System." On a mobile device click on "My ALPA" and scroll to the bottom of the "Apps" section (first section with light blue background) and click on "My Proxy System."
Whether you get there directly through a link or through multiple steps and/or various shortcuts, you might want to take a few seconds to create a bookmark to take you directly there next time. Bookmark https://mps.alpa.org/ Label it ALPA's My Proxy System

If you're not in LC 22, feel free to consider how well your own Block Reps are representing you.
Either way, please help spread the word. Deadline for designating and accepting proxies is 24 hours before the meeting (so, Sep 8 @ 11 CDT).
Also, no member can vote more than three (3) proxies.

If you are in Local Council 22 (Block 2, 5, or 7), you should have the option to proxy. If you think you're in LC 22 and you don't have access to the My Proxy page, contact Member Services to see what's up.

Ask your Local Council Reps (1, 4, and 8) what they're pushing for when they voted unanimously to "improve Defined Benefit" in the Openers. The answer might surprise you.

But I appreciate the offer. Maybe someone else who plans to be at the meeting and wants to protect our "A" Plan Defined Benefit can raise their hand and y'all can coordinate. I don't mean to sound paranoid, but make sure you don't give your proxy to someone who would rather than eat pancakes than have their cabal mate "friend" lose their Block Rep job. I wouldn't put it past the group who wrote letters in the previous 2 elections to "collect" proxies and vote against your wishes.

Another example of a post from you that has proven to be false. Are you purposely trying to lie or just spread rumors? Numerous NC communications have stated they are bargaining for increased “A” Plan benefits. You claim we need to show up an “protect” our defined benefit plan as if they were trying to do away with it. Shameful on your part.
Thanks to the poster who brought this thread back to the top.

It was only very recently that the NC Chair said the NC was working to increase our FAE as a means of improving our pension. Until that declaration, "Nothing was off the table" as a means of improving our Defined benefit.
