Commuting WB FO…or in domicile WB CA?

All valid points. Already live where Momma is happy, so very lucky there.
Loss of vacation/training/monthly bidding control is on my mind. But I'm realizing that I don't look at a large portion of the bidpack as a commuter. Any type of reserve? Nope, no interest in that. But liviing in domicile, I'd look at the entire bidpack. Granted, as a bottom feeder with little power to choose. But holy smokes, I've been a commuter the entire time at FedEx...quite a different mindset, and quite a large change.
But as a non-commuting Capt, I've heard from my already upgraded classmates--the trips don't matter as much. Just bid days off, see what the scheduling gods provide. I guess it depends on personal priorities
The two annual salary totals are within striking range of each other...senior FO gets carryover, junior Capt gets whatever is left and flies a basic lower credit hour line. So it's more time at home as far as I can tell.

I commuted for 2ish years…living in domicile is SO much better especially with kids, in my experience. I’d give up a LOT of seniority to live in base…maybe no limit on how much seniority I’d give

Single, hands down all day long. Totally agree if the domicile you can hold was agreeable to the other half at any outfit. If not, commuting to/from your location of choice does have its merits and ability to decompress away from station. How you commute is everything if must commute.

The couple years I lived in base at my last job were great. The only downside to going to junior CA in base could possibly be the loss of bidding seniority for vacation or days off. IF your seat is well staffed and you can drop things no problem that isn't such a big deal. Also, if you don't have many events to schedule around like kids school or sports it might not matter much.
I really like having control of my schedule and don't like being at the whim of the company, plus I'm a perma-commuter. So its a no brainer for me.

Without disparaging any particular base, I'd say that where you live is the biggest QOL issue you can control. If you have strong connections to the city, region and you and your spouse are comfortable with the area, by all means, locate to the base and take advantage of proximity to your job. Commuting at Fedex is one of the few perks that are unanimously considered better here than at the pax carriers. Look at the location, consult your significant other, children, and anyone else who's opinion you consider strongly.
It will cost you money. If you let that be the deciding factor then the decision is easy. I conservatively estimate that not living in domicile has cost me 2M plus in lost income and higher taxes. I'd say it was worth every penny.

Can you give specifics to back your opinion? Because I commuted for the airlines for 5 years and it was hell. In my opinion, commuting at FedEx is infinitely easier- park at the ramp and walk into ops in a couple minutes, no TSA/bag drag across the terminal, no standby lists, no huffing from gate to gate, no passengers to compete with, reliable FedEx flights, travel bank money to buy tickets on pax carriers if you want, travel bank money to hire towncars, etc. I got none of those perks at the airlines and was always stressed I’d get bumped from my flight.
