Default New Hire Aircraft Bidding

Sorry if this has been touched on. Is there a way to know what your chances are of getting a certain aircraft as a new hire?

Also which aircraft would be best to bid for as a new hire? I’m looking at either the Airbus or the 757. I want to eventually get to the 767 but I don’t want to risk not being based in MEM.

Nope

Bidding is based on the last 4 # of your Social (the higher the better for in class seniority).

You shouldn't have any problems getting the 757 or Airbus MEM. They usually go the most junior.

If your plan is to go 767, then naturally you should go to the 757 first and then your next training cycle will be super short (Differences) and easy having experience on the 75.

Thanks. How often are you able to switch aircraft? Like could I get the 767 after being on the 757 for a few months?

You are only seat locked if doing a lateral or downgrade( w years first time, 3 years second, 5 I think third). Said differently, you can always go to a higher paying seat….assuming there’s a bid, which tend to happen every 12-18 months.

Our most recent System Bid just closed today. The next bid isn't projected until Fall/Winter 2023.

What’s a typical 757 schedule look like vs the Airbus?

Just know that if the 757 is anything other than your last choice you will not get New Hire Junior Activation Pay. That means you will be on the narrow body FO pay scale the entire time you are on the 75. If it is your last choice and you are forced onto it then you will get wide body pay to fly it. The upside of the 75 is going to be rapid advancement. Also we just had a bid that is supposed to be a 2 year bid. That means if you get the 75 you might not be able to bid off until winter 2023. But also know that if you pick a wide body by the time you activate you probably will not have 2 years to satisfy the seat lock before the next system bid and might have to wait another 2 years if they keep doing these mega bids. Then it could be 1 or 2 years to train into your "to" position as the next bid trains out. Whatever you get as a new hire post 21-01 could be your seat for the next 3 to 5 years, so want what you bid. I would recommend bidding wide body slots and let them force you onto the 75, unless money is not really an issue for you.

What I mainly want is to be MEM based and I’m afraid to bid any other aircraft besides the 75 and the Airbus. I know those 2 are MEM aircraft only and I don’t want to bid into an aircraft that could have me based elsewhere.

You'll bid by base and fleet. Bid all fleets in MEM in whatever order floats your boat, then everything else for the other bases after that.

Isn’t there still a risk of getting another base besides MEM cause the company has to fill that slot?
