The truth is none of us commenting on this are in HR and making the decisions. Anecdotal examples of checking a box certainly reveal some proof of what may work. One bit of advice I always give to people is to regularly update your app. It shows your interest and prudence. It’s also especially nice when that update includes LCA and roles with higher responsibility.
My vote would be for LCA. You can always do that for a year or two and then jump to ACMI if purple doesn’t fall you.

FDX may use a different formula but just sharing what I was told

true. As I stated, a UPS recruiter, (name: S.M.) told me face to face, in person, that "their flow" is "the ACMI's". She clarified it was not "official" but those are the very strong candidates/applicants.

I’ve been at FedEx about a year. Left a legacy after a year. I was a former regional LCA prior to that. I truly believe the hiring formula between purple and brown are different. While FedEx likes pilots from ACMI’s they also value regional LCA time a lot. At UPS I don’t think the regional LCA pilot is as strong of a candidate in there eyes as the high TT ACMI driver. Just the pattern that I have seen over recent years.

No doubt the landscape has changed and will continue to adjust as the demand for experience will outweigh the supply available. As before, minimums or requirements will continue to decrease as the flood gates open wider and the pool depth becomes more shallow for all major players to draw from. Some criteria made sense while others were more delineator’s than anything else when selecting candidates on the fence. It would be interesting to see historically the transition if any from certain primary hiring/hunting grounds/applicant credentials to where the focus lies today and eventually tomorrow. Environment is a strong driver and timing is a lot of it.
*I will say there are clever management folks out there that hired bare minimum’s with no TPIC (not the major players and cargo kings) to keep them from moving on rapidly to the aforementioned mentioned destinations. Times have changed rapidly these past few years and they are no longer “trapped” as they move on. Never been “easy” to get there, just easier than it’s ever been before. Mil, LCA, ACMI, it’s all good resume fodder and don’t miss the easiest being a good friend recommending you from within. Great opportunity to land where you want. Keep at it!

Fedex loves hiring flying LCAs. Sim instructors not so much unless you are a a flex who flies and instructor as well.

Some food for thought...I applied to FDX around April 2021, got internal Letter of endorsement around June and got invite to interview mid Sept. I interviewed in November and got CJO. I was never a LCA at my regional or a sim instructor. At time of interview I was around 4000TT and 1100TPIC. I have a Bachelor's degree, CFI, CFII, typed in CL65 and ERJ 170/190 and had some volunteer work. I believe my letter of endorsement is what triggered the interview. Around the same time I also got Delta invite and had a Jetblue class date but needless to say I chose FDX. Good luck with your decision, LCA would probably help more than ACMI in my opinion.

Been at purple for 4 1/2 years and previously at Atlas for one year after the regionals. They love ACMI experience here, but LCA time is good too. If you have the opportunity to become an LCA right now, I would recommend doing that and giving it up to a year or so. If the phone still doesn’t ring, then consider going to maybe Kalitta or Atlas. Since both work, I would take the one in front of you now. As soon as you get signed off you’ll be able to check the LCA box which will be faster than going through the hiring and training process somewhere else.
Also, as someone else mentioned, Atlas is picky about who they hire because they want them to stay. In my new hire class we had 12 people and at least 10 of them did not have their 1000 TPIC, a degree, or both. Since you already have that, they may consider you overqualified anyway.

Do not do this. Once they have you trained it’s difficult to convince them to release you to the line interview. The crack deal they make you holds zero water.
