I don't know anyone in the hiring process so I'm really not up to speed at all but I do try to follow along, just as background on my knowledge basis. I was in the jumpseat area with one of the guys from the hiring office and he was trying to explain how they are hiring to a couple line pilots. I may have misunderstood, but he said they had over 2000 personal recommendations (that includes ANY manager, pilot, etc not just limited to flight ops or even express). He said that they take 50% from the recommendation pile and 50% with no recommendation to enter the interview funnel. I think he said we had hired 700 from the recommendation pile in the last year. So if there are 2100, then it could be three years if we keep hiring at this pace. Oh, he also said they are in order of submittal date. I don't know enough to make give a smart thought on this, but I found it interesting that if you get a new pilot personal rec, it could be years until you are called. Sounded like they were conducting "pre-interview" assessments at the conferences for those without recs.

Not sure this is at all what Pat had in mind when he pushed for the revamp of hiring so the pilot recs carried more weight. If any manager in the company can write a rec and it carries the same weight I'm not sure what good our recs are. I liked the old, old system where you had to have flown with someone to sponsor. You could write recs for anyone, but a sponsor got you to the front of the line. Interview priority: legacy, Capt sponsor, F/O sponsor, anyone with recs, anyone. X number of years between sponsored applicants. Seems pretty simple and straight forward.

I wouldn’t call it a silver bullet either - FedEx PEs certainly do not always drive an interview. It’s a chance for the sponsor to highlight a sponsee who was already qualified for the job. It’s definitely a good thing, but jt hasn’t been as powerful as the pilots would have liked. Best of luck to you though…IMHO, FedEx is definitely a career worth waiting for.

I've heard it called several things, and some fedex drivers that don't even know it was called a PE. Seems like everyone knows what a "silver bullet" is though. Sponsor did go to the fleet captain and he responded positively. I dont expect anything, just hopeful. I'm fedex or bust.... Don't want to be anywhere else. Thanks for the response!

I don’t think there are any ‘delays’ per se at the moment. Seems like 1-3 weeks between BI and first day of systems which has been the norm for a while.

Just a heads up for anyone looking to get some face time - it may not be a bad idea to show up to the mid-South Airshow in Millington next weekend.

might be worth it to get the heavy type at kalitta/atlas/anywhere too. Know several guys who got the call after a brief stint on a heavy.

Quite a few OI OI OI and Emirates, Cathay, etc as well. Just flew with a Green Card Lottery Winner from Europe, imagine that. Excellent flyer, granted he was already 74 qualified but a pleasure to have on board. Wouldn’t recommend that lottery as it was about a 10 yr wait for him, but we will always be poached for pilots and rightfully so. It’s not for everyone.

I am awaiting my interview next month. I received the documents for review via the Workable website. I don’t see a place to ask any questions regarding the documents. Anyone have the contact info? My big question is if they want these documents sent back to them prior to the interview or to bring them with me to the interview? If they want them back prior, what email address do I send them to? Any assistance is appreciated. Thx

Pretty sure there’s an email address on the instructions page for questions. But, just bring them with you to the interview….nothing else you need to do.
