FedEx and Atlas have entered into a long term agreement to provide 747’s to outsource FedEx pilot jobs. This is different than the temporary uplift that we’ve seen throughout the pandemic and each year during peak. The announcement says, “This new agreement is in addition to the company’s existing multi-year peak season contract that provides FedEx with a minimum of five aircraft during the fourth quarter.”
This is a direct threat to our job security and should be viewed as a shot across the bow. It’s time to take a stand, come together as a Union, and say this is not acceptable. The Strategic Preparedness and Strike Committee has sent out a message saying, “Company proposals have thus far fallen short of acknowledging the massive effort that you have put forth since our last CBA. With this in mind, the Strategic Preparedness & Strike Committee (SPSC) needs to round out our team with additional volunteers who are willing to dedicate some of their time and talent in our domiciles and major commuting cities and strategic locations.”
Additionally, the email said, “A strong SPSC team can give our Negotiating Committee the necessary support to achieve the contract that you and the 5100+ strong crew force deserves.”
While many of us have different opinions about the union MEC, Union reps, and negotiating committee, we should not be arguing amongst each other or negotiating in public. It is time to stand together as one, be involved with the SPSC, and just say no to outsourcing our jobs.

Anyone looking to come to FedEx should think twice and wait for the results of our current contract negotiations. In a few months, this may become the place NOT to be hired at.

Did Altas leverage the massive need for lift to secure a contract? If so, maybe we should take note!

If I were looking to come to FedEx, I'd wait until after the dust settles. Otherwise, you might find yourself and a few hundred or thousand folks trying to find a new job.
FedEx management made this decision when they didn't have to. They could have hired and trained enough pilots to cover the demand. FedEx deliveries are already bogged down and the on-time performance is slipping -- much lower than Amazon, UPS and USPS -- and we are not even at peak months.
A month ago, FedEx's Executive VP of Marketing and Communications was quoted in Business Insider as blaming "growth" for the lackluster on-time performance. However, yesterday during the Q1 earnings call, they blamed COVID and higher labor costs due to people not coming to work for the earnings miss. They were asked specifically if FedEx's problems were due to growth and if so why grow and disappoint your customers? We've seen the same attitude towards our customers in Flight Operations by requiring the pilots to fly Cost Index, putting saving fuel ahead of getting the packages there on time. That wouldn't have happened 10 years ago.
Fedex ... the World On Time ... FedEx's Time.

Seems Fedex is circling back to pre Covid status, where operational issues were dragging down the company.
In the last quarterly earnings call, UPS did not mention having this staffing issue, and our current OTP continues to be high 90’s. I wonder why Fedex is having trouble finding people and UPS isn’t? Not bashing Fedex, just wondering why the difference?
