FDX is Having Hotel Staff Invade Our Rooms
I now know five of our pilots who have been woken up by hotel staff who defeated the door locks (easy to do) and came into the room while they were sleeping, to wake them up at the direction of our management. The most recent one was a female pilot on layover in Aachen just a few days ago. They are doing it when they want to revise a pilot earlier but the pilot has not responded to a message left on their personal phone. It used to be that the company notified us of schedule revisions by a note under the hotel room door, not sure why they feel empowered to now invade our rooms while we're asleep? This has happened at hotels in Paris and Aachen and maybe others. I think this is obviously way out of line; I think it ought to be considered an intrusion and needs to reported to the local police.
In response, I just bought a portable door lock called Addalock, after reading an article about it a year ago in the Washington Post. They are available from Amazon for $18. There are also Chinese knockoffs available on Amazon for $12 but I suggest you buy an original. (I have no stake in the company, I just think when it comes to personal safety, I want the original tool. The original is made by Rishon Enterprises in Canada.
I know the union was notified about at least one of these room invasions but apparently nothing happened because the company is still doing it. Until some hotel staff gets beat up by a pilot surprised by an intruder in their hotel room, or we make it painful for the hotel by reporting this to the police, the company will see this as a tool available to them. Complaining to management is a waste of time because they obviously don't care about our personal safety.
Protect yourselves from hotel invasion. Report it to the local police. Notify the union and management after you have submitted your police report.

Why not? I don't think that I would get proper sleep if I was wondering when then next room invasion was going to happen. That could be quite traumatic!
