I was told by a union rep last year that all of that contract language was irrelevant since the leftovers from the 21-01 bid were settled via a side letter between the company and the union, and not via a typical bid-for-training process as per the contract. |
LAX closure?
I don’t know if this is old news or not. It’s dated March 24, 2023. I wonder if giving up the MX hangar is a sign of a LAX base closure or a nothing burger.

It was bid 20-02 to be exact. I was one of those pilots and just finished up 777 training after 6 years on property. Look, I’m not leaving this place, so take my advice for what it’s worth. This corporation will purple promise your ass into months on the road and deny you a transfer to a higher paying bird with almost complete impunity. Alpa tries its best, but we’re just kids at the table. Cargo has some awesome advantages over self loading cargo, but also some serious disadvantages. The big three are starting their own flight schools. Friggen Frontier is offering $1000/mo stipend in flight training. FedEx is about to kneel to Wall Street and explain how cutting our fleet and denying us industry pay is in their best interest. I’m here, I’m not leaving. But if I were looking to make my forever move today, FedEx would not be on my radar. Choose wisely and go where your skills are most valued.

I believe it only applied to the 777 awards. It wasn’t 21-01 awards, it was for 20-01. Those pilots were not able to bid for class dates due to the company assigning them to new hires. Union negotiated a settlement which gave those pilots a 3 CH “slot denial” pay per month until they went to training. They were able to bid for training dates outside of the normal bid process.
I wish I knew the number. It cost us, and will continue to cost us, way more than lie flat seats! |

I wish I knew the number. It cost us, and will continue to cost us, way more than lie flat seats! C2015 was a disaster for us and FedEx, but FedEx saved a ton of money. Now FedEx will have to spend more un****ing what they messed up. On this contract, DON’T listen to the Kronan’s who sell the TA. READ IT FOR YOURSELF. ASK YOURSELF IF YOU WERE THE COMPANY HOW WOULD YOU USE THE LANGUAGE AGAINST THE PILOTS. THEN VOTE ACCORDINGLY. |
“1. Where am I bidding FROM?
You will be bidding from your currently awarded crew position (2.34) (not necessarily where you are activated) (24.B.8.) Example: An 77FM with an award to the 11CL will be bidding from the 11CL seat. For BPO pilots with notional awards, you will be bidding from your current crew position (2.35) (where you are activated) (see 24 OIM)” What does it matter from which seat you bid from? Thought this was all based on seniority, not awarded or activated… |

Thought this was all based on seniority, not awarded or activated… As previously discussed, the rules governing the bid have conditions based on the manning in your current seat (where you’re bidding from). Using their example, if you’re holding an 11CL award, since the seat you’re “bidding from” is being zeroed out, any of the options where one of the conditions is that you are being forced to move will apply to you. |
