BLAME is typically a word we should avoid in aviation. I think it's wiser to use a less emotional/ less personal/more objective word from aviation safety - CAUSE. What CAUSED this TA to fail membership ratification? Like many aviation mishaps, there were many CAUSES, and when drilling down to do a Root Analysis, we need to ask WHY each of those events occurred at least 5 times. I agree that a Lack of Transparency and an Inadequate Feedback Mechanism were both ROOT CAUSES. We should avoid crying (and anger) as we peel back the onion though. BrianH is right, the sooner we select our new (maybe not new) block reps, MEC & NC, the sooner we can ReGroup, ReSurvery, ReFocus and ReNegotiate. In the next 5 months - 12 months - 17 months. IDK. But it must truly be done TOGETHER this time.
In Transparency, Integrity & Unity (for Everyone), DLax I'll take that. CAUSE is a better focus. Correcting the causes fixes a lot. |

I also said our leverage was about the same as before, maybe more or less depending on factors in the economy, UPS, etc. Him saying it was not the first time. Anyway, there are more variables than just leverage. I’d argue other variables are unity, transparency and clear goals. In the road to TA1 we lacked unity - the MEC’s vote did not reflect the crew force’s ultimate vote, condescending comms to the crew force were embarrassing and they allowed the company to craft a TA that clearly divided the crew force. We lacked transparency - denial of rumors that turned out to be true, dishonest assessments of the concessions and furlough threats from the union (retracted and lied anbout after the slide hit social media from Oak). We lacked clear goals - even after the crew raised concerns about the combo of scope changes and mgmt comments about outsourcing, no one in the MEC/NC cared to listen. We were called unconscionable for being unwilling to put up with decades of QOL concessions to jam through a retirement fix (IMO a “fix” to the company’s A-plan problem that was sold to us dishonestly as a pilot win). I’ll take the same leverage but moving forward with (via a new MEC/NC) better unity, transparency and clear/common goals. We had none of that in the months leading up to TA1. I’ll take the same leverage with union leadership that actually represents our pilot group rather than focusing on their own futures in management. It’s time for a change. |

Rock, you’re very much a defeatist based on your beliefs about leverage. Request you focus on the bigger picture, unite with your brother and sisters and do all you can to March towards TA 2.

I'm going to post this here, but I will also start a new thread with it when APC lets me.
I believe that we can easily force the MEC and NC resignations by putting pressure on ALPA National. Dues Check-off is autopay for the Union. If we all call ALPA National and take ourselves off autopay (Dues Check-off), they will freakout. If we tell them we will remain off Dues Check-off until the MEC/NC resigns, ALPA National will do our work for us. Once you come off Dues Check-off, either pay your union dues on-time, late, or not at all. The uncertainty of when they are going to get their money will be enough for ALPA National to force them out from within. The downside of agency shop is that the union doesn't have to listen to us. Getting rid of it requires a collective effort. But coming off dues check-off is an individual effort we can all use to help effect the desired outcome. |

No, we are not going to employ crazy tactics to bring on change. If you believe that it is time for new leadership, get off your arse and vote in new leadership. Or vote in the same leadership if you feel like our friend Rock. But this is not a time to be apathetic or a vigilante.

Maybe you can just make one that says "WE DON'T HAVE ANY LEVERAGE".

now you want clear communications on a path forward, when for the past few years our NC and MEC played I have a secret! they administered leading polls. they outright dismissed us, and then talked down to us, and then had the gall to threaten us with furlough should the TA fail. yet, you’re seemingly ok with this style of leadership.
