The question is, why do Fo's with seniorty bid RFO lines month after month and then ask the Captain for a landing?

Because RFO lines pay more.

I understand, but they should either 1) accept that they will go to the simulator every 3 months, or 2) bid RFO two months in a row and then bid one month of flying to reset.

One time JH told me they had a triple FO who had not done a landing in the plane in 5 years. He was the one that the company was denying paying for his 3/3 sims. I know that was grieved, but I don't know the result. Does anyone know?

Default Don’t think this is towards the FO

I think this is more along the lines of pushing back. Not against the FO as individuals or as a group. Maybe should have made that more clear.

I don’t know if it would be effective. Like like a lot of things here not everybody’s on the same page. Plus, I hear you have guys over in the training center going above and beyond.

Maybe they need specific days off? Maybe they want overall QOL? Maybe they got revised out of their landing seat pairing into being RFO? The last has happened to me multiple times, putting me in the annoying position of begging for landings so I don’t have to go to MEM.

This wouldn’t be such an issue if we just paid people for landings simulator without question nor limitation like normal airlines do. Even TA 1.0 didn’t fully fix the issue because they basically set it up so that you might only get paid for every other landings simulator.

Just asking so someone else should go to the sim so you don't have to because you are bidding QOL ETC? Before you start I am happy to give away landings if I don't need them.

777 right seater here

I have never witnessed this sitting in either the FO seat or the RFO seat (from a line Captain, see end of post). In fact if its an odd # of legs, every captain Ive seen has asked the FO if he wants more of the landings.

Maybe this is a really new thing and/or there was a personality conflict between whatever FO made the original comment and the captain prior to depature.

The only time I've run into this personally when it was a management CA, who PDO bumped the original CA becasue he needed all the landings to stay current (he took every leg on that trip)

I’d never bid an RFO line and then ask someone who needed the landing more than I did to give it up. However, I’m sure we may have a small few here that might. But if it will save me from having to make a trip to MEM that may or may not be paid, I will ask just in case they can afford to spare one without going to sim themselves.

Ive been on the plane a while and never seen this happen once. Ive been offered (without asking) the CA's landing when I was the RFO but never seen an RFO ask "hey can I have this leg"

Its probably happened but I'm betting its really really rare.
