It happens from time to time, but not frequently.

I once had an RFO ask for a landing, which the FO graciously gave him. Then he had the nerve to call schedules and ask for the pay associated with a crew change. Shortly after that, they shut that type of manipulation down.

I was not impressed with that RFO after I found out what he had done.

Why wouldn’t they both want the 1.5 hour pay for seat swap? Sounds like a good deal for both the FO and RFO. And I know they are not paying that when it is an elected swap But why not try for it? Maybe it comes out of our profit sharing….oh wait.

I doubt the RFO was trying to get it only for himself.

The seat swap was not initiated by schedules. If they allowed seat swaps to be initiated by the RFO's and FO's, they would happen every leg.

Are you the same guy on JF's who posted about mission first? I've never heard anyone say that term and I've never heard of Capt's flying every leg. This has to be a troll job.

Yes, I read what you wrote. IIRC, and it was several years ago during Covid, the RFO who got the landing was trying to convince the FO to put in for it, and the FO was hesitant, saying "schedules didn't do that, you did".

These are the types of situations which the company notices and then fixes in the fine print, usually to the detriment of the entire crew force.

It didn't pass the smell test with me, I told them so, but he was going to try anyway. I don't know how it turned out.

My point is, if you bid RFO, don't expect to get any landings. RFO lines usually don't go junior.

If you are junior and need landings, put in for first fly, call the scheduler and tell them you need landings, or suck it up and go to the sim.

I have very little sympathy for anyone hired directly into the right seat of the 777 complaining about a lack of landings.

🥱 Haha. Ok. What about the pilots that have been here 15-20 years in the right seat and ask for landings. I’ve seen that. Do you cry on your pillow for them? What if a pilot that got hired on the 75 and switched to 77. Do they get sympathy from you? Show me where the new hire 77 pilot touched you.

If scheduler changes a pilot crew position you get paid for it. Do you think this behavior was going to stop that? Spoiler. No. It will not. It really doesn’t matter what you bid because the company changes it anyway.

Why would any pilot discriminate against another fellow pilot because he was hired directly into the right seat of a 777. Doesn't FedEx do the last 4 of your SS# . So if some young pilot was lucky enough to have a high SS# should he have not selected a 777. What a clown show.

Hey, I was just responding to someone's post about a scenario that he said rarely happened with an anecdote.

No, I'm not mad about anything. I just thought what the RFO was asking for was inappropriate.

If a guy asks for landings and he is already in the right seat, I will look at how many he has and consider it, no matter when they are hired.

I just didn't think it was appropriate for the RFO to beg for a landing, swap seats, and then expect to be paid for it. Just my opinion, that's all I was saying.

fair enough. I think that both pilots should get paid the 1.5 for avoiding the sim. In turn the captain gets a couple free rounds from the victors. I know it’s not how it works and it would get abused. Going to the sim is a pain, unless you live in Memphis. And especially if you only need 1. Rarely have I seen seat swaps for landings unless a pilot maybe needs just one landing to stretch out to the next fo trip or has vacation or something. I think pilots only bidding RFO are by and large going to the sim. If I need 3 no way am I trying to ask for 3 as an RFO
