Another ACMI has been flying that route during the week for many years. 777 does AKL SYD on the weekend. Other ACMI flying inter Australia.
See Earnings post for all the new routes cities for both 777 and 767. How come they didn’t wet lease these new routes?

I just don't get how Fedex pilots are the only ones in the US asked to bet their pension on the unwillingness of a former ACMI guy to spearhead outsourcing.
I mean, if the company DOESN'T want to do it, its a zero cost thing to negotiate, correct?

Depends what scope you want. If you want every piece of FedEx shipping going on a FedEx tail ain’t going to happen. Allowing belly freight on thin routes or 737 on some random route internationally then maybe. Telling FedEx how to move their freight beyond that is not going to happen.
I might be wrong but didn’t JD grow Atlas when he was there? Seems like he didn’t shrink or wet lease away all their flying.
He did drive the pilots into court and drug out their negotiations. Sound familiar?
