Bottom Line when bidding a reserve line and having vacation that month. Is there any need to actually have the vacation footprint(i.e. the 7 day block plus or minus 5) touch any part of the R Days. Based upon reading here it doesn't matter where the R days are on the schedule, correct?

I plan to use my 7 days, extend to 10 days and then hope the remaining 5 days are somewhere palatable.
It still may be important to you where those V days are located - it may impact leveling, and you can't pick up any flying on V days, so if there is a chance you want to, it may be important to you where you actually locate those days via slide.

Since there are only 14 days in of reserve in a 4 week month can I just bid any R line and knock the whole thing out?
your r day value has to be incorrect. the lowest it could be is 68/15 or about 4:30. Everything else said is accurate, extension is just removing an r day on a one for one basis with the extension days you choose to use. So your actual vacation period plus buffers (waive able) could actually "knock out" more r days than you are allowed and in that case your would be subject to a reserve line reconstruction. If your vacation plus buffers does not hit enough r days then you get to "request" r days from your remaining ones to be dropped.

you probably only can extend 3-4 days depending on your actual r day value with an 8 day vacation.

Hilarious... hey 4A2B, check the date of that post you quoted... The r day value was correct, we were in 4A2B!

funny!! I hate when old threads get revived, but in this case it is a good reminder of what happened.

Sorry, had to do it. Didn't want to get yelled at by the search nazis.

Back to the thread, has anyone ever had them reconstruct their line even when they had the requisite number of days. Meaning... I have 15 R days and knocked out 10 but left the other 5 standing (by waiving my buffer on one end). I assume they don't touch the line and I get those 5 days on reserve. I don't particularly like those 5 days or waiving anything but I figure they're better than having them put them wherever they want.

I've read the contract and then the same thing on the VIPS Reserve Line Reconstruction page but just wanted any first hand experience.

Any experiences with that?

My experience has been that they will leave that original block intact (as per CBA 7.G.3.d.i.) - won't split it up or move it. YMMV

If my approved vacation plus the 48-hr buffer leaves a single R-day after the block is converted to vacation, will CRS make me sit that? I thought there was a rule when I'm trying to drop R days that I can't drop down to a single R day. Didn't know if that applied to this crazy vacation math as well.

They'll move the buffers to the other side of vacation and give you a block, but yes if you can create a single day using vacation, they'll make you sit it. You just can't make one via drops and moves.
