What defines a long time--3 years? 10 years? (as a FO, I know upgrade would never happen that quickly) Why is it harder to bid back out than it would be if you were bidding out of Memphis? Honest questions, FedEx is high on my list of places I'd like to work if I were given the opportunity.

You are correct after 3 or 4 years you will be able to leave and return to a right seat in Memphis. But you will not be able to upgrade for 12 or 15 years like everyone else. Bidding an FDA is a great way to get hired at FDX. FDX is still a great job, it is just now there are a lot of other great jobs out there. Good luck with whatever avenue you pursue. It is a 20 year gamble, and the right choice is never known till it is over.

Does that mean there has to be a Vacancy Bid (with openings that you are senior enough to hold) after you've been there 2 years?

Could 2 years really mean 3, 4 or 5 years? If I remember correctly you CAN'T stay in CGN more than 5 years (even if you want to) because it forces FedEx to pay German income taxes?

I'm not saying that FDA's are a bad deal, quite the contrary ... I think it could be fun for a couple or young family. I think it's a GREAT opportunity to get a job with FedEx.

Just make sure that you understand the conditions you are agreeing to when you accept a Foreign Domicile Assignment (FDA).

is anyone getting called for interviews? It sounds like after this initial class in May, the next one won't be until June/July time frame.

I heard a rumor that a large number of newer hires have left FedEx since January. Anyone know if that is true?

Yes it is true. Leaving in droves to Delta, UAL and AA. This place is a black hole unless you actually want to relocate to Hong Kong or Cologne. Plus, with the uncertainty of who will be Fred's successor and the ongoing cost cutting and diversion of volume to the ground system, FedEx Express' heyday is past. Look for us to slowly contract in the years to come.

If one would go to CGN and you take your wife and kid, how many days a month are you actually in CGN? Once you start on a pairing do you come back to CGN or are you out for the week? Same for HKG?

Typically on the road about half the time, barring Reserve in domicile.

Cargo is the exact opposite of the Pax carriers. Pax flight sequences cycle through the domicile, with some planes staying in the field. Cargo planes exact opposite, stay in the field with brief stays in domicile.

Early morning\late afternoon the ramp is empty in Memphis
