Here's my question: Where will we go to get money for contract 2023 if we use the sick leave to pay for this contract?

Pipe

I propose we have one of those blood bank trucks at the AOC every night. We wave the rule for giving blood within 24 hrs of flight. We negotiate a per pint rate, then we cut that rate in half. We get half, and the company gets half, which they use to pay for new improvements in the 2023 contract.

We police ourselves. If you see someone in AOC who doesn't look pale and dizzy, you call them out on it. We all need to give our pint of blood. Imagine how much money would be in the pot if we start this now!!!

The common thread in those discussions was that we everyone seemed to feel that the DSA was an earned benefit that should be ours to use as we like.

I'm reaching pretty far back here, but I don't seem to recall anyone suggesting that they wanted the DSA value cut by 50%.

If the MEC does a roadshow for this proposal it will be presented as a program that provides free snacks during hub turns.

I think it's a great idea to be compensated for your unused DSA. However, I don't recall having any discussions on wanting to be financially penalized for using your sick leave in your last 2 years of work, in your quest for DSA buyback.

Agreed. Along with many people deriding the fact that the DSA bank evaporated at retirement, I also recall others saying their knee was stiff after replacement... Regarding percentage I heard many numbers.. I'm just saying that it seems our current TA discussion appears to have completely forgotten all those previous thoughts..

Is it worth calling FAA and saying "I feel that FDX is pressuring me as well as offering incentive to fly while sick?"

You should have called duty officer and said " Captain is obviously sick, I want off this trip. "

What wasn't convienent was waking up Monday morning feeling like crap after flying 48 hours earlier with someone obviously sick, and then getting the very same symptoms he had. Could it have been picked up from the popcorn scooper in the AOC Saturday morning? Absolutely! The point of the thread was I did not appreciate my captain telling me that he was flying "under the weather" because of an expectation of a benefit he would get signed TA.

Kind of like the guy I flew with a couple years ago that was clearly sick but.. didn't want to miss the long layover we were on our way to.. Plus his sick bank was already low he said...

I'm wondering if this warrants an ASAP report?

I'll admit, I'm confused by your attempted analogy/question...and it's relevance to this discussion

???

I wouldn't shoplift either --- stealing is both illegal & immoral

If you're asking whether a criminal would change his behavior based on the value of the good -- perhaps -- he's making a risk/reward trade off

That's why there is probably a mental difference between a "petty thief" and a "jewel thief"

Bottom line: If you economically incentivize a particular behavior, you typically get more of it
