We could hold a couple of barbecues at Memphis and cover the cost of those. Would sure like to know who exactly ordered the removal and why. Anyone get a bonus for the cost savings?

I also am sorry to hear you've had to suffer through that. It really bothers me how many of our pilots seem to have to deal with these sort of problems, as it seems that the statistics are far higher than the norm. Of course, neither the union nor the company keeps track. Reading what we're exposed to makes me wonder if that's the reason why. I would really like the hear the reason for removing the HEPA filters also.

I've heard rumors the filters were part of the MD-10 supplemental type certificate. If true, that might be a major fine and self-disclosure for operating a huge, huge number of unairworthy flights?

How about just put a couple of them on each jet, change the FOM to require wearing them for walk-arounds and call it good.

Valid, and agreed. Actually, I've had that discussion several times as a good way to go about it. Is it India where it's required, or Japan (been a while since I was on the 777)? The ramp guys just gave one to you at the jet...

Back to original thread topic - write an Insite report about your beefs with the policy change. Maybe (ha!) they'll listen. I did and it felt good to vent, which is all it accomplished. Why not at least give us a month or so to "transition" to this policy vs "fire, ready, aim"??
