Default 767 cgn

So.....now that the dust is settling from the TNT merger, any bets as to when CGN goes to a 767 base? Within a year?

Our Chief Pilot was in Indy last week for a q&a session and he brought pizza. They're expecting 767s in Europe in six months. The airbuses are probably moving back home.

There are FedEx airbuses in Europe? I had no idea. I thought they were all domestic.

They are flown by MEM based crews.

Hate to pour cold water on this, but there really doesn't seem to be much incentive to change the CGN base equipment. The company can get all the benefit at a fraction of the cost by just flying 767s from MEM and IND and SIBA what they can't cover beyond that. Dual qualified US 767 crews can fly 757s intra-Europe as necessary and then fly a 767 back home. Paying CGN crews WB pay to continue to operate a large percentage of 757s in theater plus sit reserve isn't going to happen, IMO. Shoot, if the 767/SIBA option of getting crews in theater works, there may not need to be a CGN base. Same model (minus the SIBA) worked in ANC for intra-Asia flying for years. One long flight to Asia, fly shorter flights for 7-10 days and fly back to domicile.

That didn't kill the SFS base, though....

Hmmm....I've been told the 767 and 757 bidpacks were going to split. Aircraft are now too dissimilar at FDX. It would be bit difficult to make your model work in that case. In addition, CGN-based crews are on domestic rules. You can work them like dogs. Also, if the ANC model was such a great idea, why did a some of their inter-Asia block hours go to HK crews when they switched to the 767?

SFS wasn't flying the same (i.e. Dual typed a/c as ANC, so apples/oranges).

Maybe the dissimilarity issue or work rule benefits will trump. Both are valid points. Just a theory on my part anyway.

I think the Asia block hour exchange is more a result of the 777 effects on the ANC flying rather than some deficiency in the original model. I've also heard that PEN is maxing out the 767 and could really use an MD back on their ramp. There are a few places in our system that are starting to shine a light on the reality that a 767 isn't a simple equipment swap for an MD. Time will tell.
