OAL FDX Jumpseat Question
Hello Everyone,
I am trying to go from EWR-PHX leaving late Tuesday night and arriving early Wednesday morning. Looking at the jumpseat site, several options are available both through MEM and IND. Is one better than the other in terms of ease of getting a jumpseat? Any recommendations in terms of best/most comfortable rides (I know a lot of the planes have very different configurations). Any advice you can provide is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

The best option for Tuesday night 8 November is EWR-MEM-PHX. The 8:30pm departure is a 777. The 9:49pm departure is a MD-11 that looks to be a sleeper crew rest airplane so you would be up front the entire time. I would take the 777. The MEM-PHX leg is a MD-11 that looks to have seats in the back.
The Indy option goes EWR-IND-MEM-PHX, catches the same MEM-PHX flight.

Personally I would take the direct IND PHX flight Wed AM (FDX 1755) it shows at 2:55 am and gets you there by 6. Any of the Tue night EWR to IND flts will get you there in time. It looks to me like competition for the seats through IND is much less. If possible see if EWR Security will tag your bag straight through, but you will probably have to drag the bag anyways in IND.
For the FDX guys our JS system seems to ignore some flights when you ask to JS on multiple legs, particularly if your request spans multiple calendar days. It is best to look at separate pairings.

I looked again after reading Lag's post and I still do not see that flight. Lag is right for some reason when looking for EWR-PHX all options do not seem to show up, I never knew that. Looking again there is a 2:55am IND-PHX Md-11 on Wednesday 9 November morning at 2:55 am.
The 10:25pm ERW-IND is an Airbus that would get you to Indy for that flight.
Again, I'm not sure what that sequence did not show up in my initial search.

In general, there is less competition for the JS's through Indy. Especially on "light" travel days for FedEx.
Heavier commute to\from work days are Monday night and Friday\Saturday.
FedEx has changed policies regarding offline JS, used to be a guarantee. Now it's subject to the same potential bumps similar to all other offline JS policies--with the caveat that FedEx doesn't allow walk up JS'ers

Many flights arrive arrive noon, most arrive around midnight. But assuming your question involves Memphis, there are lots of options, hotel is one of them. Most guys try to jump in to arrive a couple of hours before their departure. But if it is a long international flight a lot of guys would get there a day early and use a crash pad or hotel.
