As long as we keep hiring I suspect the new hires will go to the traditional new hire seat, narrow body F/O. I would guess they are paying a lot of 757 F/Os WB pay because they really haven’t allowed any movement. I think now that the training has caught up they can start to fix that. But it is all just guessing. They will burn a stack of fifties to save a nickel sometimes.

When the hiring started we were undermanned in every seat and all of the 75 training was going towards filling CGN, HKG, indy and MEM 76 shortages. Letting guys out of the 75 Rt seat was not an option, no one to replace them.

Couple of questions - anyone have a particular flashlight they like using for walk arounds and a separate flashlight for the cockpit?

Also is there a facebook site for the tech side of FedEx? Whether how to find something on pfc when the search function won't do or just general ipad questions?

I love my Fenix LD-41. About $75 on Amazon. Uses 4 x AA which imo is more convenient than rechargeable flashlights. Heavy duty metallic construction will ensure longevity and makes for a nice self-defense weapon if needed. The second lowest of 4 intensity levels is perfect for the walk around on the MD and will last 2-3 months easy before draining the batteries. The brightest intensity is brighter than the sun (and will drain the batteries in 45 mins). Highly recommend it. I’ve had several crew members gawk at it. . For the cockpit, I use one of those watch-battery single led flashlights that clips onto my lanyard and has a big button on the side of its flat-shaped plastic bodies. They are sold all over and can found at camping places like REI. Here’s an example on amazon: 6 Pack Mini LED Flashlight Keychain Ultra Bright Key Ring Light Torch with Hook (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0716NF3TS..._XXjhAb2Q8A35R

Hope this helps.

I use the Fénix UC35 which I bought 9 months ago when my HKG flashlight of 3 years died. It is the rechargeable version. I lasts a long time. I went with the rechargeable because I didn't want to have to either find batteries on the road or carry extra ones with me. I carry a 3 port USB charger so I can charge my iPad, iPhone and anything else. I usually wait to recharge it when I get home. I haven't run it out of power yet so I can't say how long it exactly lasts but I only recharge it once/month. It's really bright and useful for highlighting yourself during the walk around in Memphis or Indy - the most dangerous part of my night.

or, the three pack of LED flashlights from costco. each runs on 3 aaa battery and lasts a long time. all three will set you back $20 bucks in the store. batterys last an undertermined amount of time, still on first set of three after a year. if the battery runs out grab some new ones from mx. same all metal construction, pointy thing on the end to smack someone in self defense. I can't imagine spending $75 on a flashlight with today's LED technology.

They work OK...but the problem I have with those is they turn on to easy when in pocket or backpack. Found myself replacing batteries to often. So I busted out the wallet and bought a single LED flashlight from Walmart fo $9.99. Does not have the zoom option, but works great and does not turn on accidentally.

I would also agree $9.99 is a reasonable price to see at night.

Any recommendations on hotels for new hires. Planning to eventually get into a crashpad, but planning a hotel for a week or so. Thanks.
