This was discussed by a few of us in my new hire class. We were told years 1-3 was where Flexjet was experiencing all the attrition. Of the people I spoke with, most of us thought that this $18k wasn't really going to do much to retain anyone. If you leave during years 1-3 its probably because the type of flying isn't your thing and you want out ASAP, or you're pulled away by a major the moment they call (which at this rate would probably be well under 3 years). If you stay long enough to get the $18k, you were probably planning to stay anyway, regardless of that incentive.
I gave them some feedback on a survey they sent out after our indoc dinner, and I told them exactly what, for me, would make staying at Flexjet over any major a no-brainer. And it had absolutely nothing to do with money, and everything to do with QOL. None of what I would like to see seemed like all too big of an ask.
Whether or not my response is heard, I do not know.

The ones leaving are gonna leave
Getting hired, getting an ATP, Type, and jet time
They want to be airline, it doesn't matter, they want to be flying 121
$18,000 in 3 yrs is not going to keep them
Now maybe add in QOL items and the money, maybe a better chance
But at the end of the day, the 3 year wait to then still only get paid
your money that you earned in quarterly payments for the senior guys
is just absolute BS

I do agree, I am not sure $ would solve the 1-3 year attrition problem, but everyone seems to say "pay needs to increase" We were told about a guy who 2 days before indoc got a call from SWA and was out the door, that guy (and many like him) was always going to leave for something bigger. I almost feel its a bit of a lost cause, X% of all new hires are waiting for that phone call. The next tier is people who will stay around assuming QOL and pay fits their goals and they dont mind getting up everyday to go to work.
Id be interested in hearing your thoughts. Feel free to DM me you ideas dont want to post them in public. Everyone seems to say "raise the pay and attrition and people will not leave". As I was always taught from my sales background, if all you have to sell is price, you are going to lose. I feel I am paid fairly and the company does seem to take care of us. I see myself here for the longterm however in this business, I will always keep my eyes and ears open for better opportunitites.

I'd also say they should meet or exceed NetJets domicile list. If someone is comparing Flexjet to NetJets and they live in a domicile only offered by NetJets, guess where they're going? By massively expanding their list of domiciles, not only is Flexjet opening the door to more pilots, they could be siphoning off pilots from their competitor. Seems like a pretty good deal to me.
Before I get raked over the coals, those are just my own personal preferences. I am not chasing the biggest paycheck, WB flying, easy flying and a flight attendant bringing me coffee, or the biggest direct contribution. Anyone who wants those things WILL bail the moment Delta or whoever calls (I don't expect Flexjet could ever compete in the aforementioned areas), so a 4/4 schedule here probably wouldn't make a difference to most people anyways. But thats what would do it for me.

Im pretty simple. I don't need them to match Delta's pay or give me more paid days off or $18k if I stay 3 years. I just want 4 day rotations available from more domiciles. My biggest hang up here is having to be away for 6-8 days at a time. If Flexjet told me, "you can live at any of the domiciles and work mostly 4 day rotations with some longer trips in there occasionally" I would probably stay for my entire career because they have nearly everything else that I want (home based, pretty good pay, international flying opportunities, safe, modern, positive space commute, minimal "reserve", fast upgrade, good vacation, pilots are taken care of on the road, no 24/7 on call, etc...almost perfect, hence why I am here). Now, I understand this is not efficient for the company. But neither is training up a pilot and having them leave after a month or two, or not having enough pilots to meet the demand. They're going to have to pay up one way or another. Give me a mostly 4/4 schedule from any domicile and I am set. Heck, if they needed me to make up for some of that lost efficiency by having me work an 8 or 9 day rotation once a quarter in exchange for this, that would be fine.

lol I’ll give it an honest go. I’m trying to approach this with an open mind. Years ago I did a 15/15 schedule for a few shifts before it started wreaking havoc on my personal life, so that’s where this aversion comes from. But 6-8 is not 15, so maybe it’ll work out!

I’m mostly joking. It’s not a bad place to be but right now we’re understaffed on SIC’s so very few people are getting less than 8 days on PBS. As Texas mentioned, once you get on a DRL team you have a lot more ability to do a 4 or 5 day rotation. You’ll just have to be on a team where it’s doable and accept not hitting different bonus metrics.
