Default Living expenses at ATP

How much money did you ATPers set aside to live on while you were in the three month program? Did any of you have a budget that was pretty realistic for that particular situation? I realize they take care of housing but when you went how much cash/money in checking did you have?

They take care of the housing? More like paying too much for training (~$45K) takes care of the housing. A few cases of Ramen should get you by for 3 months.

Dude don't go to ATP !! You can get your PPL, IA, CSEL, CMEL, CFI, CFII & MEI for HALF the price at your local FBO.

Do your own research...You'll get what you pay for at ATP. Its expensive and there are alternatives.

Good luck...

I need something much more structured and the two local FBO's (within 45 min of where I live) are horrible as far as options and don't have a good selection of planes. They are either down for maintenance or you can't get them. It would honestly take me 3+ years to finish up all of that at the rate I got my private.

and I ran the numbers and it would be no where near half the price. It would be 40k+ not including the housing.

Where do you live? I can totally understand if you are in the sticks. I may not be speaking fairly because I live in Dallas and there are numerous options (including 2 ATP locations). I guess the FBO's your close to charge outrageous prices as well. Good luck with your goals.

Hey Murl,

Which location are you planning on going to? I was wondering the same about living cost, I think I can do it on $400 or less month. I start in PHX on April 2nd.

By the way folks, long time reader-first time poster. I've learned a lot from everyone.

Thanks

I visit in September...They (PAS / Herb and company) seem to do the accelerated thing without charging you the extra coin that ATP does.

Can you imagine what ATP will charge once the D-Jets are on-line?

ATP does have a crash course for CFI ratings. I'll have to go there for those but the ground school can be done at a FBO or PAS.

I already asked Herb about CFI / MEI/CFII gound schools.

Research , research, and more research...Flight training is expensive...No need to carry debt that can't be managed...
