Default 141 Assistant cheif qualifications

A regs question regarding part 141, the part about Assistant Chief Instructor qualifications.

Paragraph (c)(3) requires X amount of "instrument flight instructor experience." Does that mean you've given X amount of all variety of dual since earning your CFII, or does it mean X hours of instrument student training?

(c) For a course of training leading to the issuance of an instrument rating or a rating with instrument privileges, an assistant chief flight instructor must have:

(1) At least 50 hours of flight time under actual or simulated instrument conditions;
(2) At least 500 hours as pilot in command; and
(3) Instrument flight instructor experience, acquired as either a certificated flight instructor-instrument or an instructor in a military pilot flight training program, or a combination thereof, consisting of at least—
(i) 1 year and a total of 125 flight hours; or
(ii) 200 flight hours.

Clear as mud, isn't it.

Keep in mind that any time you are flying with a student under the hood, even a pre-solo student pilot, you should be logging simulated instrument instruction for both of you.

Read, speak and understand the English language.
Doesn't say anything about spelling.

*OK I’ll play nice
Its not rocket science.
125/40 = 3 instrument students in 12 months or if you haven’t had your CFII that long then 200/40 = 5 instrument students completed.
Counting PPL students with their 3 hrs of simulated instrument flight is sketchy as it doesn’t require a CFII.

Lol its a good thing that spelling isn’t a requirement. Thank you all for the responses. Looks like I need to comb back through the log book and add a new column.

Not necessarily.
School records should indicate the course of training the student was enrolled in, 61 or 141.
School records should also indicate who the (primary) instructor was.
You have your logbook with the students name in the remarks section.
Both records combined should suffice.
I never split the dual given column and I’ve been Chief Flight Instructor 141.
Do yourself a favor though and ( if you’re not already) develop some sort of short hand entry for your Remarks column.

”J. Hopeless, PPL, #12 compl.”
”M. Smokes, IR, #4 incompl.”

The students training records should indicate exactly what was or wasn’t covered during the lesson.

You can only log simulated instrument if you’re under the foggles. If your student is under the foggles, then you’re NOT logging simulated. If the aircraft is in IMC, both student and CFII log IMC.

Joe
A better way to state that is to say the student should be logging simulated instrument time and dual received, and the CFI should be logging instrument instruction given.

Correct. But a CFII can, and should, log instrument instruction given for any instrument dual given regardless of whether it's IMC, hood, or sim/FTD. It is useful for the OP's scenario, and I've seen sim instructor jobs which required some amount. Keep it in a totally separate column.
