ATP or Local flight school
I am thinking of attending ATP in about a month. I am having trouble deciding if ATP is the best choice, mainly because they take you through all of of your ratings in 90 days. Does anyone think that is too fast? I could also attend a local flight school that has prepaid packages for each rating. It is about the same cost after rent and everything, and they say it would take about five months to complete all the ratings. Just wanted to know what everyone thought? Is ATP too fast?

It is fast...and also too expensive. An more affordable alternative: www.prairieairservice.com. At least 50% less than ATP and it's not a 'ratings' mill.

I would like to stay in California. Praire air does look good...There is a school like that here called www.california-airways.com? Anyone heard of it. Anyone have anyother flight schools that are good?

Cal Airways is pretty solid. All of their fleet has dry rates, which kinda sucks for some. It isn't a bad place at all, really nice. Depending where you are from there are many Bay Area schools that could help you out. I do know that they are all slammed with students, and it could be done but maybe a little longer then 90 days (which is good). Ahart Aviation isn't too bad, if you get an instructor that isn't too busy, which they are going to be hiring several in the next month, then you may be able to crank it out.
As for ATP, I can't say anything about the 90 program, except 90 days and pretty quick. And, they kinda screwed me with my cfi program I was going to do there.

I'd also take a close look at the costs that most don't think about. You won't be able to work while at ATP, and you'll be staying in a hotel or a living situation where you're likely to spend more on food because you won't have access to anywhere to cook.

Atp
I started ATP at the PHX location in June of 2007 and I am enjoying it. I came in with 133 hrs and I currently have 220 hrs with 87 multi-engine hours. I too consulted this form to make my decision over a year ago. I am satisfied with the program. It's not perfect, but I'm satisfied.

And by the way, I moved from L.A. to PHX then started with ATP. Do what works for you and your situation. Wife, children, finances, time frame, age? All of things must be taken into account while making your decision.
