I did my IFR thru MEI there. Experienced CFI's with top notch instruction and great rates. Not what I'd call a ratings mill but they can get you done in a timely manor. Herb's resume on the site speaks for itself. How busy they are has varied over the years. It can go from quiet to swamped from month to month. I don't know how it's been in the recent past. I do know that Herb won't take on a student if he doesn't have the time to finish them in the time frame they need to finish up by. I suggest you call and speak to them. Nice, laid back, and honest midwestern folk.

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like a pretty good place to learn. I will give them a call.

The nice part about going to an FBO (Like California Airways) is you can do your training as fast (or as slow) as you would like. They say a typical full time student could take a year. If you flew twice a day like you would at ATP, you could finish your licenses/ratings at California Airways in 90 days too. It is all in your pace. ATP doesn't have this magic training program. They just fly you hard and fly you often. You could do the same thing at any FBO.

I really hope you decide against ATP. It is the exact same training you can get anywhere else but for the bargain price of an extra $20,000 over any other school. Oh well, if you have all that extra money, it is yours to spend!!

I did a lot of research before making my choice. I wanted to go to California Airways, but when I talked to the owner he said they were at full capacity. He was trying to get more instructors. ATP is expensive, but they are ready to go and you do get a lot of multi time. Plus, I could get a job with them after. I really wanted to go to California Airways, but I would have saved about 9,000 after having to buy multi time, and the owner said it would take a year due to a cfi shortage. I know there are other ways, but right now atp was the best choice for me. I encourage others to do your research before making your decision. It is a difficult one. By the way I don’t have extra money to spend, just good credit for loans.

Is ATP really that good a deal? Whats the rush to get an airline job? Have you completed your 4 year degree? Why not get a MBA / MS in something before joining the work force? I'm an old boot but even I'm going back to school for a masters just to educate myself a little more...

Relax, take your time and enjoy the journey...

Default Ari Ben

I havent seen this flight school come up very often, and im starting to wonder why. Im thinking about going to Ari Ben in a few months. It gets you all that ATP does except for the jet time, but its still $15,000 cheaper. If your looking into ATP, you might as well take a look at Ari Ben. I have only heard positive comments about this school. Plus you cant beat flying your cross countries to the bahamas.

Check it out, Let me know what you guys think:

I just finished ACPP in SAC. All in all I think it was a good experience, and money well spent. Lots of real world experience (x-countries) and dealing with things you might not run into at an FBO and would experience in a professional flying job. PM if you want details.

As far as advise: Get all of your written knowledge tests done before you get there, it will make for a less hurried more relaxing experience, and give you more time to really sink all that new information into your melon!

What is your FBO flying experience? Please share your 'ATP only' experiences with the rest of us.
