Local FBO
PPL to Comm w/I - 20K-25K; transfer to flight academy-CFI to MEI, another 30K. You've spent approx 50K to 55K at that point...w/o housing.
My plans are to do the flight academy up to CFII/MEI @ about 42K to 50K--which includes housing. Schools such as ATP and DCA, I believe, may fall into this category. Shoot, get FS if you can The less you have to pay for outta pocket expenses the better off you will be.

Should be more like $5-7K for all three.

Hey Pilotpip, can you show me where to find some guff on Ari-Ben? I have tried several searches with no luck. Please tell me what you heard.
I called the school and talked to one of the CFI's briefly. I guess the increased cost for the GI bill program is due to the solo time. The VA won't allow the aircraft cost two be split by two people, hence the increased price. It sounds valid but I havn't verified that yet.
As far as having to be an instructor for two years they told me that wasn't true. I really like the location, the price and the available housing. If anyone has any experience with Ari-Ben Aviator please let me know. My email is [email protected]

Thanks for the help everyone. I have looked, researched and called just about all of the schools now and I think I am going with Ari-Ben. The VA program is only 18,000 out of pocket for me and that is hard to beat. The program consists of all multi time and everyone I have talked to so far has said nothing but good things about the school. Thanks again.

MikeDD,
If you live in the North East, let me know. I go to school with 2 Marines. Both have no complaints w/ how their GI bill money was handled. Me personally, I fly out of the same school as these guys, and I have completed everything from PPL to Comm, CFI, CFII, and MEI WELLLLLL with in 40k. It can be done! I will check back on this board later today to check to see your status. Hope that I can help.

Hey Mike,
I used to be on active duty stationed at Schofield Barracks inHawaii. I worked on my privtae pilots lisence at Eveland Aero in Honolulu. It was awesome. I left active duty in 1999.
I am currently in the Army Guard deployed at the moment, but when I get home I plan to go to a pt 141 school to work on my multi engine. Ther is a good school here in Atlanta called Aviation ATlanta. They have a good reputation. There is another 141 school her ecalled Falcon Aviation. Its run by a Regonal Airline Captain and it could be good for networking opportunities.
I agree you dont have to go to an expensive school like Flight Safety or DCA. Its not neccessary. Heck, join a military flying club. Most of them are pt 141 and they have very decent prices

Mike, read the other threads on here about the AriBen program. There are a couple people that spent a ton of money down there, and ended up spending even more in "unforseen" expenses.
Another thing, I've never heard of anybody charging more for simply using a GI bill. The school where I'm employed doesn't do that. It's the same if you're using your GI bill money or using your own funding.
