If you live in the States there are three flight schools I can think of:
(1) Orlando Flight Training: (This is my personal experience) I initially wanted to go with them. They have several advertisements on this website but they clearly do not know what the term "business" mean. I called 4 times during regular business hours. Never once someone picked up the phone so I left voicemails asking for specifics and showing an interest to join the school. Again, never once I received a call back. I gave up. If they don't even call back to a potential customer I am wondering what they would do to a current customer.
(2) Naples Air Center. This is where I did my conversion. I did the online course and I can say only good things about the team behind the distance learning. You have a question - they will answer it. The course at that time did cost $1900 with books. Their books are horrible but I heard they partnered now with Jeppesen so this might have changed. To study I would recommend the books from Oxford Aviation. Everything there is what you need to know, nothing more.
(3) Ormond Beach Aviation - Heard some issues with maintenance and there was a recent crash involving a student pilot (he walked away). This was maybe 2 years ago and management has changed in the meantime. Now, everything seem to be normal with happy customer. I spoke a couple of days ago to Kyle. Good guy. He will be able to answer any of your questions.
Hope this helps. Cheers!
