Default Opinions please

Ok, for the second semester of my senior in High School I am going to dedicate it all to flight training. What I am wondering is would it be smart to go to an FBO down south where there seems to be more learning oppurtunities? Or do I find an FBO up here in Alaska and do all the training up here in AK? I would really like to stay and learn up here because it is so beautiful. But then again, as I said, down south seems to have more learning oppurtunities.

Your opinions are greatly appreciated.

Alec

I was thinking along the lines of situations with all the traffic, variety in airports, and a bigger choice in FBOs.

How about the terrain, weather, and decision making that you'll find only in AK?

That is a good point. I think I might end up staying here in AK because, its closer to home, its a unique training ground, and that way I will have AK time so hopefully I can get on with a local airline here.

Pilots are usually impressed with other pilots who survived Alaska flying...but remember that you have to survive in order to get that recognition.

Go somewhere in the south and get on the fast track, weather in Alaska will not make for a good training schedule.

The weather argument is a good one. It depends on when I would train. Right now the weather is excellent around here in the spring, but it could be completely different next season. So, weather is a fact to consider.
