Default Opinions (I know there like @$$holes, but...)

Just wondering what some others opinions are. I am currently at Spirit. 6 years. On the cusp of upgrading (again), this time on the Airbus, long story. ANYWAY, CAL has been my "dream airline", being from NJ (10 min from EWR) originally.
I really want to push the issue (get some people I know to talk to chief pilots) and MAYBE get my name in the "right" pile.
The issue is PAY. WOW!. $30/hr to start, compared to $120 when I upgrade (67 now). But I am also looking at longevity. My balls (crystal, and "8") are in the shop, so I can't make the decision alone
I have heard both. Stay, you are close to upgrade, we are finnally growing. To GO, CAL is your dream, they'll be around...
Any opinions, from those in the INDUSTRY?!!!
Thanks.

I think unless you have a big reason not to go, follow your dream! If you don't you might wonder what life at a legacy carrier would have been like. Most guys to make the move because of a relationship, or kids, or just plain comfot and QOL. If you've already made it to a major you know what its like to be at an airline for the first few years. Reserve, lower pay, etc. If you can put up with these things, then whats holding you back?

We all now know you can't chase money in aviation. It will only leave you ****ed off and feeling used. Unless you've got other people in the equation right now, its a no brainer. Go CAL

The sooner you get your foot in the door, the sooner your seniority starts...but you know that already.

If you can handle the paycut now, might as well take advantage while you can. Several years from now it may be more painful when you are accustomed to the bigger bucks.

Get the offer and then think about it. Just getting your app on the right pile is not a job offer. How old are you? If you are under 30 I would tend to go with CAL. If you are pushing 50, stay.

A large airline can provide soooo much more than $$$. Working conditions, bases, contracts, types of aircraft, etc. The bigger airlines also can withstand downturns more easily. I would much rather be a small cog in the big machine anyway.

I am in between. Will be 39 in Dec. I know, I would love to get on the -67, or even -77.
I just don't want someone to "recommend" me, then IF offered the job, turn it down, and make him/her look bad. I knew a guy who did that at HAL, (his brother) then turned it down when offered. Now they aren't talking..

Life is a risk. Only time will tell if you made the right choice.

Thanks.

I don't know if you have much 121 PIC you and I are from the same generation. However if you make the jump to CAL without the PIC and for some reasons things don't go well you might as give it up since these days it is becoming very difficult to gain livable employment without 1000 hours part 121 PIC. In a few years is could be 2000 RJ PIC.

ShortBusDrive, If I could deal with the lack of benefits for the first six months, I'd be all over CAL like stink on you know what.

However, you've got to recognize one thing, and that is this: CAL is an airline, and that means that they will furlough at will if the need arises. Your CAL furlough is one industy hiccup away. Your Spirit seniority will allow you to keep an income as long even if the company furloughs a third of it's pilots.

It's a gamble my friend.
