Default Who do you want to fly for after...

My question is to those who are looking to start their training soon, those who are currently training at local FBO's, flight academies or the military and are hoping to get on at a regional or Part 135.

My question is: Which companies will you apply to? As it stands right now, my list is below.

Chautauqua
ASA
Mesa
Pinnacle
ExpressJet

XJet
PSA

XJET - been flying them since they had turboprops. In all those years I've never had bad service. My experience has been they have a good group of people that enjoy their job.

PSA - fairly low-key operation that I've flown a few times. Like their base locations.

Of course, I may never make it to either of those so Plan B is to take the 1st job that comes along and hang my hat there for the coveted 1,000hrs PIC then move to bigger and better things.

Before the regionals I'm considering Ram Air Freight for a year or so to build time / experience. I've read RAM has a good rep w/ regionals / good mx for a 135 check hauler / good pay for the 135 world.

Well as one guy in this forum kind of said, talking about which regional is better is like debating which prostitute is better, they're all dirty. Take who ever comes up to your window first. As for me probably MESA because of their PHX base and the 900. I'd be willing to be abused as long as I will be based in PHX. Next for me would be Skywest. As you can see I don't want to live out East eventhough most of the regionals are over there. Also there is Horizon but I'm not too sure about them. Pay is very good and Horizon is a career airline but I don't know if I want to be flying the CRJ till I retire.

Don't worry, you'd be flying a Q400 until you retire!

Q400's looks like a nice airplane. I can't think of any reason to prefer an RJ unless you need turbojet time.

Chautauqua: Lost contracts with AA out of STL to Trans States, needs the contract from Continental for some of Express Jet's flying but seems unlikely
ASA: Just was bought by Sky west
Mesa: Have you seen the pay scale? Benefits, duty times etc?
Pinnacle: Norhtwest is done
ExpressJet: Continental just parked 69 of their jets. Unless they agree to pay the lease the flying is going to chataqua (from the mouth of a Cont 737 Capt i flew with yesterday)

Have you thought about Sky West or Horizon?

Mesa's pay isn't much worse than the other regionals! Example, Skywest 10 yr CRJ CA $74. Mesa 68-77 depending on flying the 200/700/900. Skywest and other some other regionals make it up in work rules. 70 guarantee is based off of a 28 day bid. If you go to a full month schedule that's 75 hrs. Not defending JO, but if you're gonna bash tell the whole story. Hourly pay is the least of the worries for Mesa pilots and is barely worth mentioning...

Well I would love to get on with a local airline for a few years flying around Haines. Once I have a comfortable number of hours, try to get on with Alaska or Horizon . Those that fly for either of those companies have probably met some pilots from one of the local airlines.
