age question
so i have read that starting at home is best. i have done so and i am 5 hours into my privates. have some experince from being a crewchief in the marines so training is going easy so far. i live in the boston area so weather is difficult. i have a regular job so i fly once a week if i can. i am now 33 is it too late to try and make a run at a career or will i still be able to do it?

Not too late, but I wouldn't waste too much time. Keep your real job while you train for sure, just try to fly more than once a week.
Hopefully you don't have a family to support, or if you do your spouse has a portable job skill that pays reasonably well.
Also so your homework, learn everything you can about the industry asap.

I started at 30 and now I am 37 sitting right seat on a CRJ-700. I had only 900 hours when I started at the regional level a year ago. In flight training I flew more than once a week and took advantage of the "pilot shortage". Had there not been a shortage I would still be instructing now. If I could do it all over again I would have gone to a school that allowed me to move through my ratings faster and worked at a school where I would have flown more.
My advise is to not give up. It is worth it in the end. Fly more than once a week. You are not to old. You are, however, running out of time so I would hurry...

Definitely not too late - I retired from the service at 38, knocked out all rating over the course of a year, then spend six months teaching. I was able jump on the hiring wave last summer, joining a regional airline at age 40. However, I was also lucky with timing, if not for the pilot shortage last year, I too would still be teaching right now.
While it will likely be another 2 or 3 years before another hiring wave begins, I would recommend getting yourself poised and ready. Finish your rating and look for work teaching. And remember, multi time is always king, so try to take advantage of it at any opportunity. And there will always be jobs out there, there just the harder to find or less desirable ones right now, or may require some good networking skills.
