Default Proficiency Check per 61.58

Got my (faa license) B737 pic type last year and was wondering what is involved in a PC. Besides all manuevers, anything else? If passed is this just a logbook endorsement and a paper training record certificate ? Also
costs seem to run from 2500 to 4000. Can one do this with Instructor/ATP/Type and rent a sim to save some money or does it have
to be a FAA certified TRE ? Any info appreciated

The PC check can be the same as the type ride or less if the examiner feels comfortable with your knowledge base and flight skills. Typically, I have seen that they are considerably shorter. It can be done in a sim or plane and has to be done with an examiner. It is just an endorsement in the logbook and really can't be failed, you just don't get the endorsement.
