Default Take my advice!

I went to CWU, then left to join the Navy, got my degree from ERAU while on active duty, flew for 4 airlines and now furloughed from United Airlines. Here is what I learned....DO NOT GET AN AVIATION DEGREE. Does having an aviation degree help your chances in getting a regional job.........ABSOLUTELY NOT. Every airline that has a requirement just says 4-year degree. Most people I know dont have an aviation degree. It is almost a guarantee at some point you will get furloughed in your career. I can tell you an aviation degree will do nothing for you if that happens. Get a degree in something else so you have something to fall back on. You can still get your flight ratings and fly. My advice get an engineering degree. That will really help you out down the road. Imagine you get furloughed in 10 years or something and your degree is in aviation. How will that help you get a job if the airlines are not hiring like they are now? BUt if you had a degree in something else......I am sure you get the point.

I chose CWU and I am almost finished with training. CWU just built a new building and has a new Beech Baron G1000 FTD, King Air 200 FTD, and new CRJ-200 FTD. The FBO that contracts all the training has good airplanes (152's, Warriors, Arrows, and Seminole). Their Seminole is a 2006 glass cockpit, and just bought a 2011 glass warrior last month. They have been steadily upgrading for years and have nice equipment now. I would be happy to answer questions about CWU. CWU also has a direct hire program with Horizon and they visit us every year. My instructor just got hired with Horizon last month. My previous instructor to him got hired as a corporate Citation and KIng Air pilot about 6 months ago. These are mid-20's pilots.
Good luck!

The best thing about UND is there's nothing to run into for miles around except the control tower at the airport. The visual in the UND simulators looks like someone took a picture of a pool table. Nothing but emergency landing fields as far as the eye can see.

Ellensburg has the Cascade Mountain range ~20miles west and some hills around. Quite a few towered airports to fly to around Ellensburg. Moses Lake is a huge one close by. I must say our sims are quite awesome. Brand new CRJ-200 sim and Beech Baron sim. Both are close to a simulator, they just don't sit on hydraulics, otherwise the same (awesome graphics). I really like the aircraft we fly, too.

You're going to the get the same rating at either place. Think about what you like to do in your free time.
UND: Girls, parties, more of a typical college life. ( My friend goes there right now)
CWU: Middle of no where (which you might like) i think there is one bar in the town, and probably not a huge "college scene"...But you have mountains and activities.
There are a lot of aviation schools in the US. There are also a lot of great schools with airports near them that can offer you the same training.

My 2 cents coming from a college student at a major university with aviation programs: Right out what you like to do in your free time/what kind of environment you like then go search and figure out what kind of school fits those needs. Airline bridge training, and 141 Universities and all those shinanigans are a hoax (You'll find this is a common denominator in a lot of the Forum Topics).
All in all, think about yourself not which program is the best cause they all abide by the same rules...
