Damn sky, is that Mr. Moustaches new rate for the 152? That is absolutely outrageous when just down the road in YKM I can't believe it would be more than $120hr all said and done in the 172!

That sounds a wee bit high for a 152, actually sounds like a scam if its true, I can think of no reason on earth it should be that much, especially since fuels gone down. Central florida $70hr wet for 152 IFR and $40 for CFI. Did you mabye mean $118 dual. If not I bet that plane sits alot dont it..

I did my basic flight training with a university flying club 5 years ago. The plane was an early 1980's C152 at $52/ hr, and instructors were $22/hr. This was before the big fuel hikes took place of course, but even a year or two ago I saw similar airplanes around for about $70/hr, and instruction around $30. Getting a private pilot ticket for $5-7 grand should still be possible. I believe EWF is correct that around 60 hours is the national average for a private pilot ticket.

A local FBO in North NJ:
C172 @$115/hr
+ instruction @$51/hr.

Most of their students get their Private certificates here with around 90-105 hrs, and spend over 15K I'm transferring to ATP.

In the early 1990's you could get a commercial/instrument for around $12,500.00.

jonnyjetprop said it best; however, let me just add that when the supply (i.e. flight students) dwindles for whatever reason, you lower your prices to generate the demand for the product (the desire to train).

atp

A certain school I was looking at last fall for training was offering a full package from 0 hours to 265 hours with 100+ of ME time for ~$65K. I looked at their website out of curiosity yesterday, and it's down to ~$45K.
