Instrument Training Question
I'm looking at buying a Cessna 150 to do my instrument and commercial, it's equipped with a glideslope with marker beacons and a localizer. What I'd like to know is how much of my instrument rating could I do in the 150? and should I worry about getting more avionics or just leave it like it is and rent something to do whatever approaches that I can't do already.
I'm kind of old school and on a budget so obviously when I say "more avionics" I'm not talkin about putting a glass panel in it but just something like a king ADF for nonprecision NDB approaches.

You have to do two non-precision and one precision approaches. Looks like you'll be doing a LOC, VOR and ILS. If you only have one VOR/ILS, I can tell you what the distraction will be, an intersection hold.

IMAO the ADF would probably be a waste of money because of the legacy of the NDBs (or lack thereof)... it would be more beneficial to get a some type of GPS to follow for "situational awareness" because of the above post... intersection holds....maybe a cheaper garmin or something (not that any of it is really cheap)
Personally I'd just stick with the 150.. do a multi commercial somewhere and then to the single engine add on.

Intersection holds get seriously busy with a single nav receiver. If it is a single nav, I second the advice for the gps, but an IFR qualified one, which you would need if you plan to take the checkride in your aircraft, is rather expensive. I think a second nav and com would be a better choice.

Thanks for all comments everybody, I'm becoming more and more confident that in this market if your planning on flying 100+ hours, it makes more sense to own than to rent. If I could I'd buy a whole fleet of planes, the way they've all been marked down. But an instrument certified C-150 will definetely get me where I need to be.
