ATP is still my choice for training. My ex and I are definitely getting back together later this year. Our home is in Ft. Pierce, FL. So...if a CFI slot is not open in SUA by the time I get ready to do the CFI thing, I go to JAX and answer phones & dispatch?

Sounds ok! One question though, do they pay for room and board while I'm waiting for the slot at the location I chose to open up?

I have been on here just not as much, but anyway, you will get the city you choose, and ATP will put you in a furnished apartment while you are working at the admin office in JAX. If you are lucky, you will live in these complex called Belliza. They are brand new condos that ATP bought just down the street from the head office. They are really nice, well as long as the people living in them take care of them. They will also supply you an apartment in Stuart if you need it. They take $200.00 out of your paycheck, but that covers all utilities and it is furnished. You will see these apartments when you go on cross countries. You might even stay in one full time when you are a student, if you want one. They don't charge any extra for an apartment, but they are only available to the 90 day program students. About how long on average will one have to work in admin in JAX before going to the locale of your choice? I'm assuming it just has to do with when a position opens, right?

A couple a guys in my new hire class never answered one single phone call. They were gone within 2-3 days. But on the other hand, I was in dispatch for 2 months. It really isn't that bad, you are getting paid, instead of paying, living in a furnished apartment, and on your days off, you can fly with guys who just got there SE PVT and build up some flight time while you are waiting to go to the location you want.

Rent a plane between the two of you or does ATP let you use theirs and you pay for the gas?

You use ATP's cessnas. You fly with guys who already have their private se which they got through ATP's pvt program. They are just building xc time to enter the career program, those are the only guys who can do the pvt through ATP. You pay for nothing to fly with these guys except for your lunch wherever you are going. You can fly all over the southeast. The only rule is that you cannot fly more than 8 hours/day according to the regs. Sometimes there are a ton of these guys, then sometimes there aren't so many. When I was down there, they couldn't find enough instructors to fly with the students. From September to December of 2005, ATP needed to fly over 2000 hours with their pvt students. So you have the opportunity to fly a bunch of time while you are waiting to go to your location, if the time is their to burn.

I think I understand. The pvt guys are getting their 85 hours xc PIC time for the ATP career program. You and other CFIs are going along to log it as SIC time?

Also, all the PVT training is done at JAX and one or two other locations, right?

That will be me in about 2 weeks!! gotta get to my 85 hours. I can't wait, my flight school has ugly P models that always have inop something. I hear the ATP planes are very well kept.

Leo, I thought that you said that you were going to Clyde Shelton for your checkride, did you mean pvt se? I took 3 checkrides with him while I was at ATP, I thought you had already started the program.

LAFF-
It is not logged as SIC time, you are an instructor, that is PIC. These guys have their pvt se, ATP wants them to get it done by 55 hours, the pvt program is an 85 hour program. Now the rest of their flight time, 30 hours, is xc time building. What you do with these guys is get them started on instrument training. Have them get out low enroute charts, file a flight plan, put them under the hood, basic instrument stuff.
