How about you let the airline that hires you pay for your type rating.

The last thing we need is people going and getting self sponsored type rating to get more competitive for that coveted job at the majors.

And you guys thought the industry here has hit rock bottom.

Unless you are (fortunate) to be hired by SWA and in need of a type rating, are there really any significant advantages of purchasing a type rating? I am asking this because, I am planning on applying for the cadet pilot program in my native country (Sri Lanka) when I do have my multi and commercial. Although they don't require a type rating (A320) the selection process is from what I hear is very tough. So would getting a type rating help me out with a simulator ride? Hmm :/ ...Honestly going from a Cessna to an Airbus simulator for a low time guy like me seems excessively overwhelming...Oh well I have time to ponder over that dilemma...
