Default ATP and Type Ride

I will be getting my ATP and PIC type during the same checkride in the next few months at fsi. Other than airplane systems questions, can I expect lots of regs and other part 91 questions as well? I have heard that most examiners focus mostly on the airplane.

I just did my ATP and a Type ride at FSI for part 135. The oral exam is pretty much entirely about the airplane (systems, memory items, limitations, etc). Not too much on regs or aviation knowledge that's not pertinent to the airplane.

I did it this way too, and it was all about the a/c with one exception: when rolling out after my final landing, the examiner asked something about runway lights. He said something along the lines of "just a box I have to check."

Thanks, this is good to hear. I would rather be able to put most of my focus on the Aircraft.

I did an ATP and type at FlightSafety.

Other than a standard oral covering the aircraft systems and operation (primarily focused on the "note cards" FSI produced and handed out during class), there was only a few areas of general knowledge covered.

Airfield lighting and signs were covered using a PowerPoint presentation with examples of various markings and signage. There was some discussion of Commuter Category aircraft certification, and some discussion of Part 121 rules -- nothing that wasn't covered on the ATP written or during the classroom academics.

Has anyone recently gone through a type rating initial at FSI and added on the ATP at the same time? Is the checkride longer/harder then if you already have the ATP going in? This would be for a part 91 company but any 135 folks are welcome to add their experience.
Thanks!

The checkride would be very similar, with the possible addition of one or two maneuvers. You might want to see if they can include circle-to-land...if that's not part of the type ride (common for turbojets) your ATP (as well as the type) will have a no-circle-to-land restriction. I think many sims cannot support circle-to-land due to limitations of the sim visuals.

Default Type Rides...

You should have no problems with a type ride at FlightSafety or CAE Simuflite...

I did my ATP with a type ride at SimuFlite - piece of cake. I also forgot to request to do it until I was halfway through ground school, was no problem at all. Great people at CAE.
