Hi everyone. I'll keep this short so as not to bore you out of your minds. I'm in the UK and am 29 years old. I would like to start a new career as an airline pilot. Can anyone help me with step by step stages of things I need to do and how much it is likely to cost?

This advice comes from a wannabe but may be helpful too:
Just read all you can in these forums. In the flight training part there is extremly valuable information. Maybe you should try out www.pprune.org . There are a lot of UK-guys there.

Read all you can to make an informed decision on whether or not this is a good career move, and come to the U.S. to get your training. It is a lot cheaper here than in the U.K. to get your certificates, and you can get JAA certificates here.

Hi well certainly go for it its a great career and you'll love it but it costs a lot of money! If i were you i would try to get all my licenses as quickly and as cheaply as possible.

The problem with aviation in the UK is that its expensive but if you can afford it then go to Oxford they are regarded as the best in the business there! If not look at schools in America as its cheaper over here. However bear in mind that in the uk you need JAA and here we are FAA not the same license so you'll have to do a conversion. PM me and i'll give you some informationa s i was in your position a few months ago well maybe a few years ago now god time goes by quick!!!

My son just started a program hosted by ASU (Arizona State University) that is run out of Williams Gateway Airport in East Phoenix (Chandler actually). I think it will cost $40-60K over the the life of the program but it's associated with Mesa Airlines and almost all the graduates who want get hired there. You also get 4 year degree in "aviation management". Not really sure what that qualifies you to do except check "yes" when they ask if you have a four year degree from a major university.

It's a similar program to Embry-Riddle only I think it's about 20K cheaper.

The irony here is that I got my wings at Williams Gateway in 1989 when it was Williams AFB, my brother graduated from Willy in 1980 and my father used to instruct there in the late 60's.

I think they will help with the INS (immigration) but I'm sure that's a pain that you need to get started on soon if you want to come here.
