Our G-1000 172 costs $140 an hour wet. Our N models are $99 per hour wet with dual Nav/Coms and IFR GPS that work well.
What you're paying is insane. COL is higher on the east coast than it is in the Midwest where I am but that's a bunch of BS. The plane you're flying should be no more than $100 an hour to rent and part 141 should have nothing to do with it. Also, if you're doing flying outside your training (like just a leisure flight assuming you have your private) there's not a damn thing that the flight school can do to prevent you from renting somewhere else unless of course they had you sign something.

Indeed i know the costs are very high, but i have found ways to save myself money even with them. Also its close to my house and close to my school. I understand the negatives, but at the same time I am almost done and ive moved around too many times now to change again.
pilotpip i know i can rent airplanes from anynwehre, but i cant count that time towards the training hours for the commercial
