Air America Flight School
Not a lot current info out there on this school. Anyone have any on them? I was just browsing through their website and noticed they have decent fleet and excellent prices if those are current. Anyone confirm if those rates are current?

Air America is one of several operators that scavenge off of the three larger flight schools based at KDAB. As with any of the competitors that lure students away from the big three with low rates you should pay attention to the aircraft maintenance as this is often where low cost operators may pinch pennies when times are tough. They also utilize flight instructors that are independent contractors, so the teaching techniques and instructor fees may vary greatly. That said, Air America has outlasted other schools and been around longer than their current low cost competition, so they must be doing something right.
I've been involved in flight training in this area for almost a decade, and also run a small flight training company myself. If you have any questions about the local flight schools around here, feel free to PM me.

AA isn't bad. They have a good fleet of 172's many w/ the G1000, a nice 182. OK to take one to the Bahamas. A good mix of Flight Instructors, some old some young. The biggest issue with kdab is the excessive ground time with so many airplanes.

Thanks for the info. Do you happen to know if their rates are current on the website? I have an email into them and will give them a call sometime next week when I am where I can make a call during business hours.

I was one of the original flight instructors when they opened back in 05. (now CA on the crj900) Air America was the best job I ever had. Melissa (owner) was great to work for and knew how to treat employees. It was built on the premise of being an anti-embry riddle, your not under constant servalliance, and can enjoy what flying truely is suppose to be. I would highly reccommend them to any family member and friend. Don't get caught up in the lack of ambiance in the front office, because flying is not about the front office, if you can't get over the tiny office, then I would reccommend quit flying and go be a concierge at a Ritz Carlton. Big 3 what a joke they were. Y'all still " terminating the approaches?"

Since I went to DAB in 2008, numerous flight schools came and went, but Air America is still there. Same planes, basically the same prices. Not the fanciest place in Daytona to fly, but you won't feel like big brother is watching you, which is what ERAU can amount to. May not be the absolute cheapest place to fly in the Daytona area, but if you live right close to ERAU, it's the most convenient place to fly that is easy to schedule. Many times I'd jump on the online scheduling system an hour before I wanted to fly and could get an airplane.
Plus, there aren't obnoxious checkout procedures to fly an airplane you might already have a bunch of time in. I know at least one instructor who still teaches there, if you want shoot me a PM.
