Default IFR Currency Requirements?

Hello all,
I am a little confused about IFR currency requirements vis-a-vis the 6 approaches/ 6 calendar months. I haven't been flying much because of school and work, I did 3 approaches in July, 3 in October and 1 in December, my perception is that my currency expires tonight at midnight, the "6 calendar months" starts in July and ends with December. So basically unless I can get in 2 approaches today then I will lose currency until I do 2 more approaches, which will then extend 6 calendar months from October. Is this all correct?

Thanks

Yes, except that you have until the end of January to get two additional approaches. It's the 6 months preceding the month of the month of the flight.

No. You get an extra month because the 6 approaches, hold and track have to be completed in the 6 calendar months prior to the month of the flight. So any time in January you would look back to July 1 and see that you're good to go.

Just to really pound this in, I also agree with Twin and Wize. Approaches just have to be done in the preceding 6 months before the month of the flight. If you did your 6 approaches (+holding, tracking, intercepting etc.) on Jan 1st, you are still good to go on July 31st. Don't forget to perform and log that holding, tracking, and intercepting stuff too!
