That's no longer true. As of August 2014 there are separate ATM and ATS knowledge tests for the Multi and Single engine ATP. The ATM is 125 questions and the ATS 90. The ATM requires that you complete a 40 hour ATP Certificate Training Program before you take the written. The reg is written so that even if you hold a SE ATP you'll have to complete an ATP CTP and pass the ATM written before the ME checkride. Haven't seen any guidance if you hold a ME ATP and want the SE add on.

Just curious, are you getting your ATP to get an airline gig?? Most regionals are paying for it these days.
