Default Some CX Questions

Here are some questions for any CX guys out there, or anyone who would know anything about CX.

1. Is CX ok with Air Force Reserve pilots and is mil leave still given for Reserve duty?

2. What is the likelihood that you will have to live in Hong Kong.

3. If your ultimate goal is to fly PAX at SFO, what would be the normal progression to this point at what locations would this entail?

4. Is simply submitting your application online enough to get an interview or do you need "internal" help?

I am really interested in CX, don't mind living in Hong Kong, it would just make the Air Force Reserve thing really difficult.

I just finished my second interview (literally an hour ago). Here is what I know, in regards to your questions.

1. I have no idea!

2. Living in HK is totally up to you. I am going to be DEFO on the -400 freighter, US based. After 4 years, I can bid to move to HK. The incentive is slight less now than it was not so long ago. The freighter and Pax payscales have merged. I'm not exactly sure how it works, but there is less of a reason to move to HK unless you want to. If you do, then you still get all of the housing incentives etc.

3. DEFO freighter, Freight COmmand, Capt -400 (when able to hold line)

4. I had NO references nor anyone submitting my paperwork. I haven't got the job yet, but i'm very hopeful..

There is one more thing I forgot to include on the previoius post. I read somewhere, and this may have been some old info, CX wants you to live at your domicle. Just wondering if your ultimate goal is to fly pax outta of SFO, you have a home there, is it expected of you to move to your initial domicle? I read somewhere it was really looked down on if you wanted to commute. Have you heard anything on that?

Hey C-5,

Hopefully I can answer your questions.

1. I am not too sure but I know we have several mil guys here that have reserve duty and they don't seem to have a problem working it out.

2. You could potentially spend your whole career at an outstation and never live in HKG. The biggest incentive to the move is the higher pay plus housing allowance. The pay is quite a bit more for HKG based guys. At the moment all new joiners in N. America will join on a unified pay scale and not have the freighter/pax limitation. Basically new hires will make more money than me initially now. Existing pilots will remain on the old pay scales for now, but they are higher in the end compared to the unified scale.

3. DEFO in SFO may be available quickly because the company wants to get rid of the freighter separation all together. New joiners will be able to operate on pax or freighter aircraft. With that said, there are no crew problems on the pax side so I wouldn't expect to actually do it unless the company is in a bind. You would still operate the freighter most of the time.

4. No internal help needed, they will call you eventually!

I'm not really sure about commuting. It is my intent to commute and the company is aware of that. Your statement is the first I've heard in that regard. I'm not saying it's not true, but I haven't heard that yet.

One thing that I know for sure is that this place is professional, through and through. I truly hope that I get the position. If I do, i'm done with looking for a job. This is it!!

Is that some kind of a new b-scale? I think I might have read on pprune about a b-scale. so to sum it up, you start with more than you would have previously, but you top out at a lesser figure. correct?

Yup, that's the deal. It was the same deal that never went to a vote. However, under Hong Kong law the company can impose new conditions as long as it is an improvement over current ones. It is in effect a C-scale as the jump to pax FO was to the B-scale. The company has stated that they will try to renegotiate the deal next year.

That is correct. However, no current pilot is being forced onto UNIFIED because it IS NOT an improvement to current scales. What they are enforcing is an approximate 3% raise for the North America freight guys as of Jan 1. There is a very nice spreadsheet floating around that clearly shows the current freight/pax payscale compared to the Unified. It clearly shows that the Unified scale is more the first two years and then significantly less the rest of the time, ASSUMING, you were to go the pax fleet after 3.5 yrs.

If you were planning on just staying on the freighter forever, than Unified is a good deal.

If you were planning on taking a pax base after about 3.5 yrs, the unified is a crappy deal.

New Joiners dont have much of a say in the matter. Jan 1st and after, UNIFIED it is.

C5,

I might be able to answer your first q. A buddy of mine was hired by them, but ended up going to SWA prior to leaving AD. One of his main reasons is he was told by CX that if he misses a day of work due to his Reserve job he would be fired. They are a foreign company that doesn't have to abide by any mil leave deals. If you can work in your off time, that's fine, but they won't give you any company time to work for the USAF.
