Quote: Just heard from my JAL buddy that after some 50 years of using foreign crews (mostly American but also Canadian, Australian, etc.) they will no longer be doing that... Sounds like all those crews will now be permanently laid off...
The above quote is from a different thread (JAL) on this same forum. Just curious if there has been any type of hint about a similar decision at ANA to not contract out foreign pilots.

I know that they are both two completely different companies, but was wondering if JAL's decision to not only stop hiring foreign pilots, but to lay them all off, is of concern to you guys at AJX/AJV.

As a hopeful AJX pilot in the near future, JAL's decision is a little disconcerting to me.

What's your opinion on this?

Thanks.

I recently interviewed with ANA and they emphasized that foreign pilots are in their long-term plan. ANA is in better financial shape than JAL and they hope to continue positioning themselves for future growth. The economy could become bad enough to change that situation, but so far so good.

I think the pool of applicants just got a lot deeper.

As of now, the short answer is no!

I'm afraid that this might be the immediate consequence of this development, these individuals already have Japanese ATPL's and are used to the training environment, used to the culture, used to the country and familiar with the Asian route structure. If you where an HR recruiter, wouldn't you want to tap on that?

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone could give me any info on the 15 question test that is give as part of the interview process. I know that the questions come out of the ATP writen exam book, but do the questions include charts or tables or are they just straight forward questions with no calculations? Any examples would be great!!! Thanks for all of your help.

Very straight forward, i dont remember any calculations, but i dont have a very good memory either! Really, dont sweat the test at all...very basic stuff.

The questions on the test come straight out of the Gleim's ATP test prep book. Nothing aircraft specific. Like myoface said, nothing to worry about. Basic meteorology, aerodynamics, performance questions, with no calculations.

I reviewed the ATP prep book once over on those topics and after the test realized the review really was not necessary. But, it also didn't hurt.

So, my advice would be, focus on the sim profile first and foremost. If you have extra time after that, lightly review the ATP prep book.

Good luck.
