Hi!

I read (pprune.org?) that the radar equipment for Lagos is (probably) laying in a box on the waterfront. The minister in charge of the program took the money and ran.

I also heard that Lagos is terrible, and I heard from an Arik guy that they are bad.

That being said: I would take the job, because I need one, and you can commute.

Hopefully, I'll get a better job in Nairobi, but there's no commuting.

Too bad for me.

Some good post's in here on this .
Here are a few point's on personal safety.
1.Carry just the cash you need for that day and leave the rest in the hotel safe.
2.Safety in number's
3.Keep your Credit Cards at the hotel .
4.Be aware of those around you and the area that you are in.
5.Carry a biz card from the hotel in case you need to contact them.
6. If you are challenged just give that person what you have -refer to rule one and you will understand why.
7. Wear the cheapest watch you can find when going about town.
Remember you are not walking around Hyde Park and this pertain's to all 3rd world countries .
Hope this help's and good luck with the job search.
Fred

Nigeria's dirty, filthy dirty. Worst poverty I've ever seen. AK-47 fights every other night or so. The bodies are off the street by 8am, usually. Makes it interesting when you have a 6am show time, lol . We stayed in a guarded residential area so we weren't in too much danger. Kind of like a minimum security prison. Armed guard to and from the airport (not sure if he had bullets or not) Every now and then we'd buy a clip from the local police and go blast away with their AKs in a lot across the street from our hotel. Good stress relief.

I've got a couple of good friends down there now. They're making it work. You have to find ways to occupy your time. They're not the safest operators but being the PIC helps. I wouldn't go down as an FO to a local captain. Bunch of chest pounding cowboys. They're the ones that keep making CNN. THey don't learn. If it came down to being the last possible job for me, I'd have to think hard.

so all in all, it sounds like a nice place to take the family and settle in for 2 or 3 years!

Actually the number one safety is try McDonalds instead of going to Nigeria for flight time that could kill you. I've heard Nigeria is increasingly becoming a terrorist haven.

Adrik (or whatever) offered me a CRJ-900 cpt spot... for something like 10K a month...
I told them I would do it for 30K and she all but hung up on me... ha ha ha

30K a month I might consider it... anything less then that im not gonna put my life on the line everyday... forget about how bad the flying is... I mean just going to by a beer.
