Like what Dominican said "it doesn't make sense unless it's a job requirement".

An FAA type rating is permanent, while with most other countries the type ratings expire. Indeed, the licenses expire after you leave the country. It's nice to get the permanent type onto your permanent certificate for future eventualities.

do you know which FSDO actually would not mind doing it? I contacted the FSDO for the DC area and they mentioned the only way to get the TR is to stand in for the US practical test. I did email back with a link to the site you gave me and am waiting for a response.

in the end is it a choice the FSDO has??
