PS-One of our guys worked for them for 3? years. He liked the company. He didn't like Doha (too hot, and not home, and too expensive), and he didn't like how they paid non-Mzungus.

In training as a 777 DEC, so far, so good.

Don't believe everything you read on PPRUNE. The negative comes from a lot of frustration. There are pilots on the 320/330 who have been there 3 years and were not afforded a change to the 777. They are not happy as they see pilots "junior" to them being hired as DEC's.

The people I've met have been friendly. If you meet the qualifications, do not want to commute, and are looking for a permanent position until 65, apply on line.

It's not for everyone, but then, name me a job that is.

what is required for an ICAO ATPL??

US ATP fits the bill.

One word of advice. If you get invited for an interview/sim eval, read "Ace The Pilot Technical Interview". It will help pass the 50 question written test.

Qatar Airways is growing rapidly. They will be taking delivery of 25 A320's and one B777 a month for 2years starting in Sept/Oct. They also have orders and options for 350s, 380s, and 787s. For exact numbers check Wikapedia.

There have been many management changes in flight ops and HR recently. The one constant is the man at the top, the CEO. He has been CEO since the airline's founding in 1994.

Qatar is an Islamic state, however it is not as conservative as Saudia Arabia or Kuwait. Women can drive and vote. Crime is extremely low. The population of Doha is 80% expat.

The position is not a commuting one. My suggestion to you is that if you are considering commuting to look elsewhere.

Housing is provided, for now that consists of fully furnished 3BR apt for Capt, 2BR for F/O. Captains have been given the option of taking the housing allowance (approx. US$3300/mo) and living off the local economy.

If you come with and open mind and plenty of patience you should do fine.

Thanks for the info. I have a question, if you don't mind.
When filling out the application, did you really give them your spouse's, parents', in-laws', children's and sybling's passport numbers?
I think that's too much info, specially during the first stage of my application.
I might be willing to give that info once I'm offered employment.
Your thoughts(?)
Also, how long is the contract you have to sign for the type rating?
I guess that makes it 2 questions :)

3 years if no type. I would fill it out as completely as possible. If they don't like your application, I'm 100% sure they will not interview you.

PS-It sounds like you don't agree with their application philosophy. I suggest that you would not like flying for Qatar/living in Doha, so you should not apply. You have to be VERY flexible working and living in a foreign country, ESPECIALLY if you are American. It is not easy.

I am a very flexible pilot and employee but that's got nothing to do with me surrendering all that information to them. Also, I've lived in 3 countries growing up (Chile, Sweden and the US) each one of them very different from each other, so I have no problem being flexible and adapting to new environments and by the way, I'm not American.
