I am also interested in employment possibilities in China. There have been quite a few forum members posting on Korea and Japan (no 777), but less so with China. My preferred left seat command is the B777 (qual'd and current).

Who is hiring? Which offer reasonable terms and conditions? Bases in the U.S.?

How do I determine which employment agency each airline uses?

Thanks

B777 Captain jobs right now include:

China Cargo ( Parc or Vor Holdings )
Asiana ( not sure, Parc maybe )
Korean ( recommend Cambridge Communications )
Qatar ( directly with airline )
Turkish ( Wynnwith ? )

Should be a lot more opportunity for B777 rated guys when the B787 starts getting delivered.

Default Air china do they hire directly??

I was going to ask if they are hiring directly at Air china the europeans? Or again one must go through the thousands of the agencies for the same place? I would like to ask for a future. I am not familiar with the non eu rules of hiring for overseas. Are there any womens out there. However, I do not wish to be asked about of how someone had asked to join our eu base from a contract basis since everyone had asked thousands of time, not knowing my plane not knowing my responsibility without asking me for it and insulting a little bit. As far as I got to know if one in non eu territory is thinking about a job at the airlines in Asia then must be US citizen, that what I had heard. Is that correct?????????????????????????

Simply put, China will not hire any foreign FO at the moment. They have a huge need for Captains, but FOs, they have a pool of them in training or waiting line training. This number keeps increasing by the minute.

My info may be a little outdated. When I worked in China, at a flight school, I obtained my CAAC license but that hasn't done me too much good. I know of three people from my former company that went to fly as FOs in China. One was inducted into a G200 and the other married a Chinese national, therefore found a back door into a Chinese carrier. The third person had a restricted A320 type, i.e. no hours on type just sim, but managed to find a way into a Chinese carrier.

If anyone can find a way in now, I would love to hear about it!

Not true. Both Yangze River Express and Great Wall Airlines are currently hiring FO's for the B744, only foreigners at Great Wall actually (don't know about YRX), but you have to be current and qualified.

If your friend married a Chinese national then he's on local T&C, which are not great.

I fly for Great Wall as an FO, so I'm pretty sure I'm correct on this one.

KoruPilot,

How's Great wall? I'm anticipating a furlough here at UPS and have a screening set up at KAL (FO). Is Great Wall a commuting contract? Have friends interviewing at Jade as well, is Great Wall a better gig?

From what I hear we are still a better gig than Jade. Lufthansa has pulled out (of Jade)so they can focus on Air cargo Germany, or so I hear from some ex Cargo B guys. That's not good.

We do require current and qualified on the aircraft.

It is a commuting gig, but it's a tough one at times as there are not as many days off as KAL. However, there is the US shuttle and I've spent at least two to three weeks per month in the States each month since December. LAX is apparently to come, so for US guy's it might, might being the operative, a good move.

No chance for command at either KAL or GWL realistically unless you have previous large jet (not too big, an F28 would do it) experience, then you are a relief captain for 12 months (at GWL).

I think the money is about the same as KAL, but I can guarantee the guy's you'll work with at GWL are way better if you're coming in as an FO (this also from one of our skippers who's ex head of KALPA and a great chap, so he'd know). It's actually a pretty level cockpit gradient and I enjoy flying with pretty much everyone here. Some are much better than others as far as flying the plane, but all are good guy's, pretty much to the man. They do emphasize hand flying so that's all good if you like to drive the thing, which I do. At my previous employer it was almost a no no, so I like this.

But, here's the rub. China Eastern just bought half the company. Now, that could be a good thing or a not so good thing, I guess we'll see. We have a fleet meeting coming up where the president and VP Ops (who are both seconded from SQ) will be talking to the lads about it. As of now, nothing is to happen for a year as far as we've been told, and I'm in the US doing the ANC-ATL-ORD shuttle for the next few weeks so I'll miss it. Rumors aside, management is saying it's pretty neutral, but I'm always a bit skeptical. As of now though I really like the gig. I imagine SQ will want to keep running flight ops, which is a good thing, but they may not have a full say down the road.

MU buying in is also why I doubt the commands will come down the pipe as, understandably, the MU mainline guy's will want the seat on the whale if they can get it. Otherwise it would be a contract (5 years) until, in my opinion, you would see the left seat. So far nobody has ever been upgraded here, so that's how I gauge it.

Reading between the lines, if you currently live in ANC it would be a very easy gig I think. Also ORD as I spend a ton of time here (in ORD now), and flights originate out of here and ANC (two crew ANC-ATL-ORD so a long day but good flying).

Hope that helps.

KoruPilot,

Thanks for the info. I live in MSP now, so the ANC flying doesn't help me too much. I have heard the cockpit atmosphere at KAL can be a bit challenging for FOs, guess I'll just have to suck it up. I like the tickets to and from ICN and the provided accomodations as I don't want to complicate my life any more than it already is. I understand an upgrade isn't going to happen, but at this point, seems KAL might be a good place to hang my hat and wait for things to improve here.

True. Please accept my apologies; I was only thinking on the mainstream carriers such as Air China, Chine Eastern etc. etc.
