You'll need jet time for a jet job at the moment. Most of the smaller jet operations are looking for commanders, Great Wall where I am is looking for FO's as well but we require current on the actual aircraft (B744). Yangtze River might take you with just a bare 737 classic/glass rating, but I wouldn't count on it.
The advice regarding Air Japan was good. There are some ops in the Gulf and Africa as well.

Sucks that we have to leave our country and way of life to continue growing and getting experience in bigger, better equipment but we do what we have to do for what we choose as a career. I'll keep looking and hoping for the best. Thought China with a growing economy will be a little more desperate for pilots. apparently not.
Thanks for your inputs.

Yea, I'd give it about 18 months and you will see a real desparation here for qualified pilots, but as to whether that will open the flood gates is another matter.
You have to understand that the Chinese evaluate who they let in soley on what their resume says and how it relates to the specific positions they want to fill. We have great people with good in house references looking to come up here, but because they lack jet time, or in our current case B744 time, they are not even looked at. To me this limits the available pool of applicants to many people who we don't want, only because of the ratings on their licence.
Too bad. I have some TP friends who I know would do a great job and love it here, but there is no way they will get in. Also, because of the paranoia here (in China) with regards to what makes an operation safe they will likely park planes in the coming years rather than pick up pilots with great experience, but no jet/type specific experience.
I hope that sheds a bit of light on why it is the way it is here.
Good luck with it anyway, there are some great places around Asia and the Middle East who will hire you with a bare type rating and some good TP experience. Don't limit your search to China.

I started to look into southamerica for possibilities. Pay does not match the international market but I think is my chance to get some of that experience I am lacking and cannot get within the US. Will see how that goes.
