Emirates Questions

One of my friends was just hired at Qatar. He is liking it so far...he is there with his wife.
Last I checked, which was quite a while ago, Etihad required a type rating in one of their aircraft....so I didn't apply there.
Another friend was just hired at Air Hong Kong...they are hiring both for the A-300B4? and the 747-400.
And another was hired by Eva for the MD-11F. I think they are hiring for all airframes and freight and pax.

It's funny when I hear people say they didn't apply to this place or that because they did not meet the requirements. You make the hiring department's decision really easy when you say no for them.
I have worked for three different airlines now, and I have never once met the advertised requirements when I applied. (no internal recs or father as CP either)
While it is true that Etihad requires a type rating, that has not always been the case, and may not always be the case. Looking at deliveries over the next 4 years we have 20 narrow bodies and almost as many wide bodies coming. The cadet program will not provide a fraction of the pilots we will need, and I estimate we will triple our current pilot group by 2015.

I'm not sure if those other airlines have the perks of Emirates such as the accommodation and such. And I'd rather live in Dubai than Abu Dhabi, and whenever I want to visit there I can just drive down.
RemoveB4flght, it's good to know I don't need the exact requirements. Did you have anything special on your resume? Like an awesome college or some special flying skills like aerobatics (does that matter if you were trained in aerobatics?)?

Also, what about the benefits of Emirates? I heard that they house you in Silicon Oasis, is this true? How is the quality of the apartments? I also heard that there’s a limit to how much they’re willing to spend on utilities…is this a low amount that easily gets crossed? Is it easy to save a lot of money and still life at a decent quality of life? Thanks again guys.
